Key leader and manager for the firmware development of digital signal processing related VHDL for use in communication datalink systems and other programs as required. Performs complex Electrical Engineering duties following designated standards and procedures. Works closely with engineering disciplines. Duties require application of engineering principles and techniques. Will supervise subordinate engineering staff and lead design efforts. This job requires strong analytical and technical abilities and demands fast, but carefully thought-out results. Strong leadership and control of the work process from beginning to end is necessary. This position typically works under limited supervision and direction. Incumbents of this position regularly exercise discretionary and substantial decision-making.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Expertise in the implementation of communication systems functions in FPGAs and Software.
  • Decomposition of abstract requirements into complex systems and justify functionality trades, especially as it relates to FPGA system and sub-components.
  • Experience developing MATLAB floating-point and fixed-point bit-accurate modeling for communication datalinks.
  • Experience with VHDL or Verilog design and FPGA architectures for communication systems thru all phases from initial concept thru production support
  • Must have a track record of leading a multi-disciplinary team in the specification, development, integration, verification and testing of communication systems.
  • Experience in relevant adjacent disciplines such as RF, Mechanical, Circuit Design, Printed Circuit Board Design, and Software.
  • Experience with all phases of product life cycle, ability to articulate and justify why items must be done at specific phases in the pursuit of cost and schedule.
  • Familiar with networking architectures and multiple access techniques.

  • Responsible for the timely delivery, quality, and cost of FPGA development projects.
  • Mentor / Coach / Lead a department of 12 - 15 skilled FPGA engineers, fostering an environment of collaboration and innovation.
  • Technical lead for FPGA development proposals & development of basis of estimate justifications.
  • Must have experience with use of Earned Value Management System (EVMS)

  • Provides technical direction and strategy to engineering development efforts for solving complex issues.
  • Outlines and communicates the most appropriate technical approach for business development activities.
  • Plans and evaluates architectural design and reviews system performance.
  • Identifies, investigates, and resolves technical issues and mitigate risks.
  • Participate in engineering design change boards and technical/project reviews.
  • Communicates technical advancements through briefings and technical papers, as appropriate.
  • Maintains state-of-the-art awareness in areas of technical expertise such as changes, advancements, and improvements.
  • Develops algorithms.
  • Plans, conducts, and directs research and development.
  • Applies advanced systems methods, theories, and research techniques.
  • Propose innovative engineering solutions and improve engineering processes.
  • Involved in design review activities, including proposal technical volume reviews.

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • This job is at a cleared facility. Candidates must hold U.S. Citizenship.
  • Four-year college degree in engineering plus a minimum of 15 years of related experience, or a master's degree in related field with 13 years of experience, or a PhD with 10 years of experience.
  • Proven track record designing, developing, and testing communications signal processing functions in FPGAs and modeling in MATLAB.
  • Desired knowledge of dependencies between system components and protocol layers and their interactions.
  • Desired experience designing and specifying the cross-layer MAC/PHY interface and system performance analysis.
  • Proven track record to lead technical initiatives and teams across functional organizations to achieve a product goal.
  • Ability to use typical office automation products such as word processors and spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge of customer needs and competing products.
  • May be required to travel domestically and internationally including working odd hours, in line with customer requirements.

Cubic Pay Range
153,796 - 211,470 $ * + benefits.
*Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from our lowest geographic market up to our highest geographic market.
The Cubic pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law
