TITLE: Director Financial Planning and Analysis
DEPARTMENT: Finance
LOCATION: Hybrid Portland, ME or Remote

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of FP&A will be a key partner to the business through executing budget versus actuals analysis (BvAs), quarterly re-forecasts as needed, and as a strong contributor to the annual strategic planning process, enabling the Executive Leadership Team to define strategy and make data-driven decisions with more efficiency. Additionally, this role will hold four major areas of responsibility in:

Presenting financial results:

  • Providing a forecast of the businesses P&L and operating performance on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
  • Presenting financial results and analytical findings to the Executive Leadership and other key business stakeholders
  • Provide a clear narrative through creating presentation materials ensuring accuracy and clarity in charts, tables, and other visuals

Strongly contribute to the creation of the annual financial and strategic plan:

  • Partner with the CFO in creation of the annual or long-range plan, working directly with budget owners to support the growth and revenue goals of the business
  • Partner with cross-functional departments to identify KPIs that measure performance; track and report results on an ongoing basis

Contribute to broader company decisions:

  • Leverage financial acumen to provide the CFO with recommendations on the types of analyses should be performed to support informed decision-making utilizing past experiences and precedent
  • Have a deep understanding of the product and the market, bringing fresh insights that mitigate risks, capitalize on opportunities, and achieve strategic goals
  • Partner with Product Team to create business cases for new Product launches
  • Articulate the impact of market trends on financial performance
  • Have a strong understanding the competitive landscape and incorporating that understanding into the analysis

Prioritize clear communication:

  • Guide business stakeholders into making the right decisions through concise and direct guidelines, a clear, documented process, and leveraging automation where possible


EXPERIENCE AND SUCCESS ATTRIBUTES

The successful person in this role will have a high level of financial acumen, including proficiency in financial systems and tools, as well as strong analytical abilities to translate complex data into actionable insights. Other experience that will impactful include:

  • 7-10 years of progressive FP&A or related experience with advanced technical financial expertise; exceptional financial modeling skills with an ability to create sustainable and reliable models to enable better understanding and decision making
  • Have a collaborative approach to managing stakeholders
  • Strong communicator with a high attention to detail
  • Industry experience would be helpful; must have an active understanding of the startup ecosystem
  • Ability to leverage our tools including Google Sheets, excel and powerpoint as an expert;
  • BA/BS required, MBA preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This role has the ability to either work in our Portland, ME HQ or fully remote; must be able to travel regularly to our Portland, ME HQ if remote.
  • In a fully remote role you are expected to have a designated space that is conducive to productivity and conducting confidential video calls. VETRO will assist with technology needed to set up your home office, as well as offer a semi-monthly internet stipend. While working remotely, you are expected to be distraction free from childcare and pet responsibilities.
