Purpose:
The Director, Finance Business Partners will provide oversight, guidance and support to the US and global financial staff. Key to the role will be helping drive process standardization, oversight around key controls and process continuity across operational finance, helping ensure finance and grant reporting is timely, accurate, and in compliance. The role will be a critical liaison between both financial leadership and non-financial programmatic leadership.

The role will also understand the nuances and complexities across regions and global offices and work closely with local finance and program leads to guide and support key financial processes and help provide the financial perspectives and analysis to drive effective decisions.

The Director, Finance Business Partners oversees the Finance Business Partner team and will be pivotal to helping drive and support ongoing performance management. Critical to the role is understanding best practices as well as the tools and applications to support business stakeholder needs efficiently and effectively today and in the future.
Responsibilities:

Financial Monitoring and Coordination

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of regional programs’ needs and complexities, particularly funding requirements, and restrictions.
  • Develops and deploys methodologies for reconciling and analyzing local, program, regional, and country financial information.
  • Support timely development and dissemination of internal financial reports and analysis working in conjunction with local, regional, country, and HQ financial staff.

Financial Management and Operations

  • Work proactively and collaboratively with financial staff to actively manage and deliver financial operations in line with organizational policies, processes, and standards.
  • Actively participate with local, regional, country, and HQ staff to support in grant proposals, planning, post-award, budgeting, compliance, and related functions.
  • Understand and support financial, reporting, audit, compliance, budgeting, and forecasting guidelines and process.
  • Serve as the key contact for CWS financial staff and coordinate with HQ financial leadership to meet organizational goals and needs.
  • Work closely with the HQ donor reporting, audit, and compliance staff to support CWS office needs related to award and grant timelines, report, and compliance needs.
  • Work closely with HQ budget, forecasting, and planning staff to enable budget data to translate to funder and organizational reporting formats efficiently and effectively.
  • Assist with the development of financial templates as needed using Excel and other appropriate software.
  • Provide support to CWS financial staff in local and regional offices to meet organizational, funder, reporting, compliance, regulatory, and other needs.

Performance Management

  • Understand global business operations and help bring leading practices across the global enterprise.
  • Contribute to developing and continually improving business and finance performance measures.
  • Collaborate in development, dissemination, and training around organizational financial processes.
  • Lead the training and communication to support organizational finance needs.
  • Support and help stand-up new office locations.
  • Set up the constructs for learning and knowledge sharing across the global finance organization.
Other
  • Serve as a member of the CWS financial leadership and other organizational teams as needed.
  • Travel to CWS sites as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

Experience:

  • Eight or more years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably in an NGO, foundation, or USG with heavy concentration on budgeting, accounting, financial management, grant submissions and post-aware monitoring and reporting.
  • Solid background and understanding of accounting/financial management principles.
  • Excellent critical thinking and project management skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to understand and interpret financial reports, analyze financial data for monitoring adherence to CWS and funder-specified guidelines.
  • Flexibility, patience, and the ability to work productively in a team environment and independently.
  • Excellent computer skills, preferably Microsoft Office® (Word, Excel, and Outlook in particular).
  • Intermediate to advanced skills with Business Intelligence Systems, Data Analytics, or Financial Planning and Analysis Systems and their implementations.
  • Demonstrated experience in standard accounting software.
  • Attentiveness to detail and accuracy in budgeting, accounting, reporting, and writing.
  • Ability to act with sensitivity and discretion while working with highly confidential information.
  • Experience in managing people across global locations.
