Job description

The Department of Film and Television Production in the School of Film and Television at Loyola Marymount University seeks an accomplished director in fiction filmmaking with extensive experience in short formats (fiction short films, music videos, etc.), a sincere desire and potential to engage in academic leadership, and a proven track record of excellence in teaching and student mentorship to join our faculty. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong story sense in their creative work and have significant experience directing in a variety of lengths and formats in film, television, or streaming media.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong story sense in their creative work and have significant experience directing in a variety of lengths and formats in film, television, or streaming media.
The position is designated as Open Rank (Assistant/Associate/Full Professor), with rank determined by the candidate's qualifications. This is a full-time tenure/tenure-track position with competitive salary and benefits. The position begins in Fall 2024.
The successful candidate will teach graduate and undergraduate production courses as well as advanced seminars in directing, with emphases on the director/actor relationship and how directors collaborate with their key creative crew members including producers, writers, editors, cinematographers, visual effects producers, etc. They will teach the required full-time teaching load of three courses per semester, continue their creative professional work, and provide service to the university.
LMU's School Film and Television is a top ten film school located in the heart of Los Angeles with a state-of-the-art facility in Silicon Beach. SFTV provides a comprehensive graduate and undergraduate education through small class sizes, creative collaboration, and a launch into the industry. The LMU community is comprised of faculty, staff, and students from a wide range of backgrounds. Candidates should be experienced in and committed to working with diverse populations.
DEGREE REQUIREMENTS
MFA in Film/TV Production, Writing, or Media Arts or a related discipline is required.
PRIOR TEACHING EXPERIENCE REQUIRED (Minimum of 3 YEARS)
A minimum of three years of proven excellence in teaching film production at the university or professional level is required, along with evidence of successful student mentoring.
