About the Job:
The position of Director, DOT & SHE&S will have primary responsibility of ensuring the compliance, safety, and operational excellence of an organization's transportation and logistics operations. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects related to Department of Transportation (DOT) safety regulations and guidelines as well as all safety and health related aspects of the workplace and working activities. The Director collaborates with various teams, including operations, compliance, and safety personnel, to establish and maintain a culture of safety and compliance within the company's transportation division.

In This Role, You Will:

  • Stay up-to-date with federal, state, and local DOT regulations and ensure the company's transportation operations are in compliance.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with DOT regulations, including driver qualifications, hours of service, vehicle inspections, and record-keeping.
  • Establish and maintain safety programs and initiatives to reduce accidents and incidents related to transportation operations.
  • Conduct safety audits, inspections, and assessments to identify potential hazards and areas for improvement.
  • Conduct in depth accident and incident investigations in order to identify root causes and develop corrective action plans.
  • Collaborate with safety and training teams to develop training programs for drivers and transportation personnel.
  • Establish and maintain safety programs and initiatives to reduce accidents and incidents related to transportation operations.
  • Analyze incident reports and accident data to identify trends and implement preventative measures.
  • Work closely with insurance providers and legal teams to manage claims and mitigate potential liabilities.
  • Develop and manage the department's budget, ensuring cost-effective safety and compliance strategies.
  • Allocate resources efficiently to meet safety and compliance goals.
  • Identify areas for improvement with respect to streamlining Odyssey's DOT program including internal and regulatory reporting, Driver Qualification and records management, HOS, DOT Clearinghouse, etc.
  • Implement vehicle camera system across all Odyssey fleets.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to DOT compliance, safety training, and incident reports.
  • Prepare and present regular reports to senior management and regulatory authorities as required.
  • Collaborate with internal departments, including transportation, human resources, and legal, to ensure alignment with safety and compliance objectives.
  • Represent the organization during regulatory inspections and audits.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in safety and compliance processes and implement best practices.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and innovations related to transportation safety.
  • All other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., transportation management, safety management) is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in transportation safety and DOT compliance, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management role.
  • In-depth knowledge of DOT regulations, including FMCSA regulations, and a strong understanding of transportation industry best practices.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and EPA rules and regulations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interact cooperatively and collaboratively with others as a team, including those holding divergent and/or opposing views and goals.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities at a given time.
  • Flexibility to be on call in response to business needs.
  • Proficiency in using safety management software and systems.
  • Relevant certifications in transportation safety or DOT compliance is preferred.

Travel requirement: 60% to 70%
