Job Summary:
The Director of Distribution and Fulfillment Operations is responsible for strategic planning, direction, and overall performance of four North American Central Shipping Locations (CSLs). This key member of the Supply Chain and Operations leadership team achieves the lowest possible total operating expenses while delivering consistently high branch replenishment and customer fulfillment service levels. She/he drives continuous improvement efforts in operational effectiveness while demonstrating POOLCORP's core values of respect, integrity, diversity, and safety of others. The ideal candidate will build and develop strong leaders to run safe, highly efficient operations. Reporting to the VP, Supply Chain and Operations, she/he will work with a variety of teams across the organization to generate creative solutions to complex business problems and deliver meaningful results. This role will be critical in leading change management to support organizational transformation and growth.
Responsibilities:
Provides leadership, direction, and motivation to the CSL management team to achieve safety, profitability, growth, and employer of choice goals.
Leads the design and implementation of standardized processes and systems across the network; seeks out opportunities for simplification and automation of core processes.
Develops the CSL budget, ensures adherence to the budget, and takes corrective action as required. Strives for cost per line improvements in all operations with a focus on productivity gains and error reduction.
Monitors CSL performance towards corporate, service, financial and other goals; analyzes results and initiates appropriate action to achieve goals.
Develops cross-functional relationships external to the CSL operations to achieve goals and identify improvement opportunities; cultivates strong relationships and strategic partnerships with Sales leadership.
Directs efforts to improve profitability through cost reduction, cost avoidance, and process improvement/loss prevention.
Responsible for training and coaching managers to develop high performing teams.
Guides managers to use the performance management process (i.e., hiring, development, review, and termination of associates) to motivate employees to grow in their jobs and in their careers. Personally participates where needed.
Develops and delivers briefings and presentations to executive management.
Directs regular staff meetings to ensure communication of strategy and resolution of issues.
Develops and documents a five-year network strategy.
Manages significant cross-functional projects to ensure goals and timelines are met.
Develops, manages and monitors CSL metrics and ensures that disciplines are in place and operational to ensure the health and integrity of the business and our associates (e.g., safety, inventory accuracy).
Participates in special projects and performs additional duties as required.
Requirements:
10 years of experience in distribution management; 5 years must be in multi-facility leadership roles with P&L responsibility
Bachelor's degree in Operations, Business Management, Supply Chain or equivalent
Significant experience in leading operations/supply chain for a global organization
Has a history of applying influential leadership to achieve results in a changing environment
High level of intellectual curiosity and personal integrity
Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills with a proven ability to create and maintain positive working relationships with vendors, suppliers, and customers
Solid understanding of distribution, logistics, warehousing, and customer fulfilment methods.
Deep experience and understanding in applying Lean principles to various environments and operations.
Looks beyond existing methodologies and current processes to define and resolve complex problems
Ability to deliver results in a fast-changing business and/or regulatory environment
Preferences:
MBA or relevant advanced degree
Significant experience in organizational leadership
Experience in change management
Detail oriented; strong analytical aptitude
Self-motivated, creative, and collaborative outside-the-box thinker.
