The Director, Compliance is a leader responsible for implementing and maintaining regional compliance policies and programs compliant with MMA’s national programs, state and federal laws and regional best practices. As the quarterback of regional compliance, the Director, Compliance will serve as a subject matter expert on national and regional policies along with state and federal regulations impacting our business and industry. The Director, Compliance will collaborate with regional leaders and MMA’s national compliance and legal team, to oversee, provide advice, and proactive support on a wide range of compliance, contractual and legal matters to colleagues within the region.

- Communicate and understand MMA Midwest (MMA)’s vision, core passion, value propositions, and culture to reinforce decisions, processes, and roles within that context
- Work to define and drive team’s strategic and operational goals and steer associated project plans to successful completion
- Provide leadership to execute the organization’s strategy by planning, monitoring, and adjusting team projects and activities
- Serve as a member of the key management team by utilizing best practices and new ideas with others in the agency; share ideas to maintain consistency across similar teams
COMPLIANCE PROGRAM MANAGEMENT
- Stay updated on legislative and regulatory changes, including the CAA, CCPA, CCDA, GLBA, TiC and other state and federal regulations; manage annual bulk mailing of compensation disclosures and other notices
- Create internal documentation and procedures allowing for colleagues and leaders to navigate compliance related inquiries with clarity; serve as a point of contact ensuring inquiries are appropriately addressed and resolved
- Lead compliance initiatives related to new or existing compliance programs and policies; collaborate with internal teams to ensure adherence to legal and compliance standards
- Create and maintain internal compliance tools, procedures and resources; recommend and develop regional best practices from a legal and compliance perspective that adequately align with corporate best practices
- Manage communication updates to internal teams and clients; develop and deliver internal employee training on compliance matters
QUALITY ASSURANCE AND STANDARDS
- Serve as the regional lead for any internal or external audits conducted, managing the entire process from pre-audit preparation to post-audit remediation
- Develop accountability expectations in partnership with appropriate regional leadership; create tools to measure progress to achieve desired standards and results
- Collaborates with Business Process, Client Services, Information Technology to implement improvements to internal audit functions, processes and procedures
- Lead ongoing audit processes and quality control related to compliance programs and other agreed upon quality standards
CONTRACT MANAGEMENT
- Oversee the review, negotiation, administration, and occasional draft of contractual agreements, including, but not limited to, client service and fee for service, non-disclosure, business associate, carrier, vendor, third-party provider, and other agreements as requested
- Direct the contract review process with a holistic approach to understanding business needs in conjunction with client requests
- Ensure compliance with MMA standards, contract development and language
- Develop and implement procedures for contract management and administration which adhere to regulatory requirements and MMA best practices
CHANGE MANAGEMENT
- Consistently follow MMA’s change management best practices and sets an example for other leaders within the organization
- Apply change management principles to projects and in all interactions with internal clients; this includes fostering an interdisciplinary approach and engaging other departments to achieve outcomes
- Identify the impact of change on stakeholders and makes recommendations on how to successfully execute a change management strategy to achieve desired results
- Demonstrate the ability to use project planning and tracking tools and leverages these tools to keep all stakeholders informed, aware of key milestones and progress that’s being made toward achieving desired results
BUILD AN EFFECTIVE TEAM
- Foster innovative thinking and encourage team members to put forth and participate in new ideas to improve the team and the company
- Foster working relationships among team members and others that demonstrate our best and brightest characteristics
- Recruit and hire new team members with appropriate skills, experience, traits and competencies by following MMA’s hiring and interviewing best practices
- Monitor staff workloads and determine appropriate assignment of responsibility
- Communicate with team members through regular meetings following MMA’s best practices, including information on company updates, team performance, and other information relevant to their roles
- Consistently use the tools and follows best practices within DNA Leadership
DEVELOP AND MANAGE DIRECT REPORTS
- Execute onboarding process, oversees training and education, and introduces to team members to ensure a smooth transition for new employees; assigns mentors and coordinates on the job learning as necessary
- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with all direct reports
- Coach employees by providing methods and resources to finding answers when appropriate
- Follow performance management process with direct reports on schedule, including individualized business and development goals developed in collaboration with each employee; fosters open communication on performance and accountability standards throughout the year
- Lead team members to achieving specific goals and objectives
- Appreciate individual accomplishments by utilizing recognition practices in a personalized way for each employee; share team success broadly and asks others to recognize as appropriate
REQUIRED:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in contract management, paralegal work, or legal and compliance roles
- Experience within the insurance brokerage industry
- Strong understanding of contract development, standards, and language
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and project management tools
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks effectively
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Collaborative mindset and customer service orientation
PREFERRED:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
- Paralegal certification
- Demonstrated experiencing leading a team
