Job Overview:
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) at the Adult Day Program plays a crucial role in providing direct care and support to individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. This position involves assisting participants in daily activities, fostering a positive and inclusive environment, and promoting their overall well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
- Personalized Care:
- Provide individualized care and support to participants based on their unique abilities, needs, and preferences.
- Assist with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, meal assistance, and mobility support.
- Program Engagement:
- Engage participants in program activities, ensuring a variety of opportunities for social, cognitive, and physical development.
- Encourage active participation and provide assistance as needed for optimal engagement.
- Communication and Interaction:
- Foster positive and respectful communication with participants, promoting a supportive and inclusive atmosphere.
- Use effective communication techniques to understand and respond to the needs of individuals with diverse communication styles.
- Behavioral Support:
- Implement behavioral support plans in collaboration with program coordinators and behavior specialists.
- Respond to challenging behaviors with patience, empathy, and de-escalation strategies.
- Community Outings:
- Assist in planning and facilitating community outings, ensuring participants' safety and promoting community integration.
- Provide supervision and support during outings to enhance social experiences.
- Health Monitoring:
- Monitor participants' health and well-being, reporting any concerns to program coordinators and healthcare professionals.
- Administer medications according to prescribed guidelines and maintain accurate records.
- Documentation:
- Maintain detailed and accurate documentation of participant progress, daily activities, and any incidents.
- Complete required reports and share relevant information with program coordinators.
- Supportive Relationships:
- Build positive and supportive relationships with participants, families, and caregivers.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure consistent and coordinated care.
- Transportation:
- Good driving record and ability to transport client to and fro.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (some roles may require a relevant certification or associate degree).
- Previous experience in Direct Support roles, preferably in a setting serving individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to diverse needs and communication styles.
- Compassion, patience, and a commitment to person-centered care.
Work Environment:
The role involves working within the Adult Day Program facility and may include community outings. Flexibility in scheduling may be required to accommodate program hours and special events.
Shift: Mon - Fri 8am-4pm
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.58 - $16.18 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
