FUNCTION: The Direct Care Staff is responsible for the direct supervision and delivery of services to children served in the home. Child Specialists protect the child’s safety, health, and well-being and ensure that assigned duties are performed adequately. The Direct Care Staff assists in helping the child in obtaining goals in basic life skills development furthering their move toward independence. The Direct Care Staff must comply with all Federal, State and Company requirements in the delivery of these services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires at least a High School Diploma or GED. Must be at least 18 years of age or older. Preference will be given to individuals having experience working with children in a similar setting.
Additionally, Direct Care Staff must initially and then routinely meet the mandated requirements of background checks, being free of any convictions that prohibit employment. Must be physically, mentally, and emotionally capable of performing assigned tasks and consistently demonstrate the skills necessary to perform the assigned tasks and duties including complying with the obtainment of training as required to serve in this position.
DIRECT CARE STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Knowing which child they are responsible for.
Providing child care services for each assigned child.
Being aware of and accountable for each child’s on-going activity.
Providing the level of supervision necessary to ensure each child’s safety and well-being, including auditory and/or visual awareness of each child’s ongoing activity as appropriate.
Intervening when necessary to ensure each child’s safety.
Being aware of the child’s habits, interests, and any special needs, restrictions.
Be capable of monitoring of the comings and goings of the child.
Providing a safe environment.
Promoting developmentally appropriate independence in children through planned and flexible program activities.
Positively reinforcing the child’s efforts and accomplishments.
Ensuring continuity of care for the child by sharing with incoming Direct Care Staff’ information about each child’s activities during the previous shift both verbally, and via shift notes including information or instructions given by the parent or other professionals.
Following the child’s service plans.
Demonstrate competency, prudent judgment, and self-control in the presence of child and when performing assigned responsibilities.
Report suspected abuse, neglect, and exploitation to the Child Abuse Hotline and to the designated employee or administrator.
Know and comply with applicable rules of Chapter 42 of the Human Resources Code, Chapter 745 (relating to Licensing), and any other applicable laws. Have current tuberculosis screening showing the employee is free of contagious TB.
