Job Description
Dimondale Adolescent Care Facility is breaking down barriers in the community care youth sector and is seeking a Direct Care Specialist to the join the team. If you have a niche for working with children and enjoy a life enriching environment, this is a great opportunity for you!
You will be working alongside the Administrator and/or Facility Supervisor performing tasks that include:
- Log in to the server, clock-in, and check your email. Begin logging into the Facility logger.
- Complete the shift-change checklist. You will be responsible for its contents. Do not sign for things you have not verified.
- Make sure the exiting staff briefs you on the current status of the residents and the house.
- Read the daily logs and memos.
- Complete the facility logger every fifteen minutes minimally.
- Check Medication log and count the medication. Initial the medication log and note errors.
- Check all bedrooms and ensure that all residents are in their assigned rooms and are in bed. Begin a 1-15minute check-in log. All residents must be checked every 15 minutes minimally.
- Check the graveyard inbox and file any paperwork appropriately.
- Check refrigerator to make sure all food is in order and labeled.
- Check the menu and begin thawing any food items needed for the next day.
- Complete any chores that need to be completed. Ensure the kitchen is clean, wash all dishes, and clean cabinets and refrigerator.
- Make a safety check around the house. Ensure that all windows and the main doors to the house are locked. Also check and lock the outside gates and screen doors.
- Wash and dry the laundry. Put laundry away in its appropriate place.
- Stock the bathroom with supplies, trash can with liners and the office with any needed stationary. Make a supply request for any unavailable items.
- Check the master appointment book and write appointments on the appointment board.
- Wake up residents at 5:30 am on weekdays.
- Prepare breakfast to be served to residents by 6:00am. Follow the posted menu.
- Residents who are not at the table for breakfast may have fruit, yogurt, or other approved snacks.
- Residents who do not eat breakfast must sign a refusal.
- Ensure that breakfast is put away and supervise kitchen clean up.
- Prepare lunches for residents as needed for school or recreation.
- Ensure that all residents that attend school are out of the house on time.
- Transport residents to school if needed.
24. Check resident’s bedrooms for neatness (bed made, area neat) The facility must be licensing ready prior to your leaving your shift.
- Answer phones and take messages. Don’t forget to forward messages appropriately. DO NOT GIVE OUT ANY INFORMATION ABOUT STAFF OR RESIDENTS AND REFER IMPORTANT CALLS TO FACILITY SUPERVISOR.
- Write up your end of shift summary (EOSS)
- Give a complete shift report to the morning staff.
Requirements:
Dimondale staff are required to be certified in Pro-ACT (Professional Assault Crisis Training) within one month of being hired, by Dimondale’s certified Pro-ACT Instructor. All Pro-ACT trained staff have demonstrated the full understanding of the guidelines and meet the standard put forth in the training, resulting in their certification in Pro-ACT and/or Pro-ACT restraints.
What Pro ACT Entails:
Pro-ACT will describe the principles need for the de-escalation of a youth in crisis, as trained staff aid the youth back to their baseline. In the event restraint assistance is needed, only Pro-ACT trained staff can perform a restraint based on the following criteria:
· There is a crisis, harm to self or harm to others
· Ratio is met; two Pro-ACT trained staff required to perform the restraint
Staff are able to safely enter into the restraint and maintain the safety of all party’s involved
Qualifications:
1. Must be at least 21 years old.
2. Must be physically and mentally fit to perform all duties.
3. Must have a criminal record clearance and child abuse index clearance, required.
4. Must have valid driver’s license, required.
5. Ability to interact and communicate both verbally and in writing to residents, other staff and to the general public.
6. Must have CPR/First Aid Certificate.
7. Must have effective communication, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
