Position: Direct Care Provider

Status: Full Time/Part Time

Compensation: $15.00-$20.00 an hour

Location: Spectrum Day Program in Lakewood and/or in the community with clients one on one

Position Overview: As a direct care provider, you have the incredible opportunity to serve an amazing population with intellectual and developmental disabilities and make a real difference in their lives! You get to help them meet their goals, learn new skills, brighten their day, and in turn, your own! In the Day Program and community, you will be providing care for those receiving services and not only ensuring their health and safety but making sure they are getting the most out of their day!

Spectrum offers our I/DD population the opportunity to come into the Spectrum Day Program or to go out into the community with our highly trained professionals and friends. At our Day Program, our clients work on their adaptive learning skills by going on community outings, collaborating with peers, and participating in group led activities. In the community, individuals work on their independent learning skills and community engagement by practicing appropriate social interactions, money management, and more, with your modeling behavior, guidance, and support.

As a Direct Care Provider, not only are you able to attend some of the most exciting outings and facilitate daily activities, but you get to work with the kindest population, all while observing their intellectual and developmental growth. This all stems from you!

Job Functions:
  • Work with individuals to meet their formal and informal goals, as well as service plan requirements to help create a meaningful life for others
  • Supervise and monitor clients to maintain safety and appropriate supervision levels at all times
  • Assist with feeding, changing and performing any activities of daily living required to ensure the health and safety of our participants. This includes verbal prompting, hand over hand and full physical assistance in the restroom. Must be comfortable and confident in performing bathroom supports - No experience with this? Don't worry, we have a great team ready to help support and train you at all times
  • Engage in, participate and lead group activities with those receiving services. Model and uphold ethical boundaries with clients and peers.
  • Transportation of individuals to and from Day Program or individual appointments will be required.
  • Solve problems, handle conflict, and be mentally adaptable in dealing with multiple individuals with challenging behaviors when in Day Program
  • Complete daily notes and goals tracking through Spectrum's provided online tools and monthly paperwork

Qualifications & Requirements
  • At least 18 years of age of older
  • High energy, positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills and a passion for caring for others
  • Pass a Criminal and Colorado Adult Protective Services (CAPS) background check
  • Possess a valid Driver's License, reliable vehicle with proof of auto insurance. All Providers will need to provide transportation in your own vehicle to either Day Program or errands in the community (all time spent transporting clients is part of compensation)
  • Able to provide all elements of hands-on care per client's individual needs
  • Dependable and Punctual
  • Possess a positive attitude, be compassionate and have aptitude to care for others. and the ability to communicate with peers and other staff members.

Physical Requirements
  • Able to provide all elements of hands-on care per client's individual needs
  • Bend, sit, reach, and lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Work on your feet throughout (approximately 6 hours) the day and transfer clients, independently and with assistance
  • Transfer clients in and out of vans
  • Transfer clients in and out of wheelchairs, from a sitting to a standing position and vice versa, and in the restroom. (Two person transfers take place in Day Program)

Experience
  • At least one year working with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (preferred, not required)

Spectrum provides the following training initially and for recertification:
  • Initial Orientation and On-Boarding
  • CPR/First Aid/Universal Precautions
  • QMAP-Med Administration
  • Safety Care Behavioral Safety Training
