Job description

As the clinical expert, liaison, and consultant for outpatient procedures, this position is responsible for planning, coordination, integration, and ongoing evaluation of the delivery of care to the surgical population at the ASC. The director is responsible for assuring the delivery of integrated, orthopedic care in the pre-operative, peri-operative and post- operative settings. The Director facilitates a seamless transition of care throughout the continuum in collaboration with patients, physicians, vendors and all stakeholders involved in the care of the patient and is responsible for assuring high quality outcomes. The Director drives care coordination by actively providing consultative screening and evaluation of patients to direct and enhance access to the ASC’s services and improve patient, family, and physician satisfaction. The Director serves as a link between a patient, their family/caretaker, the physician and clinics, anesthetists, laboratories, and the ASC team.

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Associated Degree /Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing

Certifications/Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of peri-operative experience with extensive orthopedic background in an ambulatory surgery center setting required.
  • Current registered nurse licensure required.
  • BLS / ACLS / PALS Certified required.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology preferred or required to complete a course in medical terminology. Familiarity with software programs such as Microsoft Office and the Center’s IS System

Aptitude for learning new computer software

  • Accurately performs pre-admission assessment over the phone and formats a plan of care based on individual patient needs and according to physician’s orders.
  • Assist in scheduling in the ASC software, evaluating the OR utilization and optimal block to schedule physician cases.
  • Works closely between physician offices schedulers and ASC scheduling to optimize utilization of the operating rooms, and securing blocks for providers to allow for efficient flow throughout the center.
  • Ensures all equipment, supplies, and medications are available for use on day of surgery, with communication between the office and ASC.
  • Ensures safe overnights care services are provided as necessary.
  • Maintain a weekly rounding schedule with Physician offices, and scheduling departments to keep communication current and identify any scheduling needs in advance.
  • Assist physician office scheduling with utilization of case coordination with the ASC software to book time and request time for surgical procedures.
  • Organizes and prepares medical records of patients. Documents care appropriately and fully. Follows up on missing data and other patient care needs.
  • Develops and implements educational materials, by working with physician office personnel and the ASC pre-op intake RN’s and Clinical Manager for the orthopedic, spine and total joint cases.
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of standards of care and policies and procedures.
  • Contributes to marketing and case volume growth initiatives.
  • Designs product evaluations and implements the findings with attention to cost-effectiveness.
  • Uses innovative techniques to effectively manage facility resources to positively impact patient outcomes in a cost-effective manner.
  • Actively participates in appropriate committee and quality-improvement activities.
  • Informs Administrator of applicable day-to-day situations.
  • Maintains a flexible schedule as necessary to meet the needs of patients, physicians, staff, and facility.
  • Exhibits compliance with federal, state, and accreditation standards, as applicable.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Communicates schedule changes appropriately, in verbal, written, and computer forms of communication, per policy.
  • Reports directly to Administrator and works hand in hand with provider offices in meeting their scheduling needs for the Center.
