Starting Salary: $28.61-$31.31 (depending on experience)

About this Position
The Digital Forensics Examiner will conduct forensic examinations of digital and electronic media devices to collect, process, and present data in the City of Edmond Police investigations. This position requires the utilization of previously acquired technical knowledge and skills, and will require working cases involving the sexual exploitation of a child, indecent liberties, and child pornography. (The Edmond Police Department is an affiliate of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.)
Experienced examiners will provide on-going training for new examiners until appropriate competency levels are attained. Work is subject to peer and supervisor reviewfor overall quality, accuracy, and adherence to departmental policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct forensic examinations of computers, cell phones and other digital media devices to identify, collect, process, present, and preserve evidence in police investigations
  • Prepare standard and special reports
  • Respond to crime scenes to recover digital evidence
  • Appear in court as a witness
  • Provide technical support for other units within the department
  • Obtain Forensic Computer Examiner Certification (CFCE) within one (1) year
  • Must obtain a Cellebrite Certification (certified operator & physical examiner) within one (1) year
  • Assist law enforcement personnel, other law enforcement agencies, district attorneys, judges, and citizens
  • Stay abreast of current industry technology, collaborate with staff to complete technology projects, and learn new technology as needed

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent, plus knowledge of a specialized field equivalent to graduation from an accredited university
  • Bachelor's degree in Digital Forensics, computer science, cyber security, or information systems (preferred)
  • 2 years of experience and/or training with Digital Forensics, computer science, cyber security, information systems, or related fields
    • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Certification from the International Association of Computer Investigative Specialists (IACIS) (preferred)
  • Cellebrite Certification (certified operator & physical examiner) (preferred)
  • Valid Oklahoma Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier

Necessary Knowledge
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, and procedures pertaining to digital evidence
  • Knowledge of principles and methods of the proper identification, collection, and preservation of digital evidence
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, methods, and techniques of digital forensic analysis

Necessary Skills
  • Strong mathematical ability
  • Strong communication skills to convey technical information verbally and in writing
  • Ability to provide accurate and detailed courtroom testimony
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work with disturbing images and media content and maintain confidentiality
  • Willingness to work in stressful, hazardous, and extremely undesirable environments and conditions
  • Ability to meet the required physical standards for this position
  • Ability to pass extensive background process and pre-employment drug and audio screenings
