Job Description
Celebrating its 50th year, GREAT PERFORMANCES (GP) stands alone in a constantly evolving media landscape as America's only continuing showcase for the performing arts, shining a national spotlight on the best in music, opera, dance, and theater. It reaches viewers via broadcast and streaming on a scale far beyond the scope of any single performance space or arts institution. It is the great equalizer, providing free access and open opportunity to millions of Americans across the country to experience world-class performing arts. Generations of artists and audiences have shared that their first exposure to the arts was through GREAT PERFORMANCES on PBS.
Great Performances is looking for a Digital Content & Strategy Lead to define and evolve GP's content initiatives across multiple digital platforms and formats. The goal of the Digital Lead is to grow, engage, and retain an audience for the performing arts in general and Great Performances in particular. This is a newly created role and the ideal candidate will have experience both in or around the performing arts and its intersection with media. The role is responsible for defining the Digital Content, production and multi-platform distribution strategy, ultimately driving community engagement and audience growth with the next generation of GP fans. This includes developing the yearly editorial and product plan, expanding the content and distribution pipeline, and overseeing original content development with both internal and external producers and partners.
The ideal candidate is highly motivated, self-driven and excited to expand GP's digital presence. The Digital Lead will be an integral part of the GP team, while also working closely with other groups across WNET, in particular, with ALL ARTS. The ALL ARTS department was built from the ground-up as a digital-first project and a key aspect of this position will be finding synergies between GP and ALL ARTS to make the two projects greater than the sum of their parts.
Responsibilities:
  • Oversee multi-platform content development and publishing strategy, focusing on quality Digital Content production, volume, and frequency of publishing, intended to expand the overall audience reach and engagement with GP;
  • Working closely with the GP Executive Producer and Series Producer, develop long-term content, product and engagement strategy;
  • Oversight of series digital channels and platforms including but not limited to series website, landing pages, live, streaming, etc.;
  • Actively manage GP's primary digital distribution platforms, including programming editorial calendar, optimization, and reporting, coordinating with other WNET units as necessary;
  • Work in collaboration with our Audience Engagement, and Social Media departments to ensure the most meaningful, engaging, and accurate content is developed, shared, and tracked across paid, organic and earned media;
  • Work with Digital Marketing and Fundraising to identify and execute on funnel marketing opportunities;
  • Establish KPIs that align with The WNET Group's digital transformation goals;
  • Drive content strategy optimization by tracking, measuring, and reporting;
  • Interpret and incorporate data and feedback to identify platform-specific best practices;
  • Help to identify opportunities for partnerships (content, distribution, sharing), sponsorships, and new digital revenue opportunities.

Qualified candidates will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and will have experience in identifying opportunities for partnerships and collaborations with established and emerging arts organizations. The ability to oversee multiple projects at once, ensuring timely execution and quality control, is required. Additional qualifications include:
  • Minimum 4 years' relevant experience required;
  • Previous experience in or around the performing arts and its intersection with media is preferred;
  • Experience working in matrixed content production and product development environments with a combination of internal and external content, production, design, product and technical support partners;
  • Proven experience in, or management of, Digital Content creation, production, and distribution;
  • Demonstrated experience in defining and implementing Digital Content strategies across multiple platforms;
  • Proficiency in overseeing and managing digital channels and platforms including web, social video, and podcasting;
  • Strong knowledge and experience with established and emerging social video platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, etc.

The WNET Group offers competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and a supportive working environment. Salary ranges are based on benchmarked nonprofit and industry related data provided by an outside consulting firm and are commensurate with skills and experience. The hiring salary range for this position is $75,000 - $95,000. Internal equity considerations will be reviewed before making a final offer.
