ARTSADVANCE FACULTY - DIGITAL ARTS INSTRUCTORS (2-3)

(In-Person)


What We Do

Sitar Arts Center engages DC youth, from early childhood to young adulthood, in building a creative community of learning and belonging that removes financial and cultural barriers to arts education and career training.


We engage children, teens, and young adults in the highest quality visual, performing and Digital Arts. We teach the arts so that our students learn about themselves and gain critical life skills. We create a community for students and their families. And we are an untiring voice on their behalf.


ArtsAdvance: Career Studios is an "earn while you learn" workforce training program designed to support young adults (18-24) in DC who face barriers to pursuing a family-sustaining career in the creative economy. In this pilot year of the program, we seek a team of 2-3 instructors who can help us innovate and adapt the program in real-time.


What You'll Do

As an Instructor in Arts Advance, you will collaborate with other faculty and the Director of Innovation & Engagement to develop and implement a workforce training curriculum that prepares Sitar's ArtsAdvance trainees for the world of work in digital art professions. Trainees will prepare for careers in Graphic Design, Web Design, and UX Design.


Teaching faculty for ArtsAdvance utilize a project-based methodology that simulates professional experiences within a training setting. We seek experienced professionals to teach 60-90 minute classes in artistic, technical, and professional skills.


ArtsAdvance teaching faculty are professional designers or artists who have experience guiding students' awareness of message, design, audience engagement, collaboration and project management to best prepare them for the world of work.


Responsibilities Include


  • Develop and teach course curriculum and select instructional materials to support the teaching and learning of assigned courses
  • Deliver course content and provide a culturally responsive environment using a variety of teaching styles to create a participatory learning experience for a diverse group of learners
  • Support trainees through portfolio development and client-centered projects
  • Collaborate with Sitar Staff to track student attendance and evaluate trainees' performance and growth
  • Mentor 5-6 trainees throughout the duration of the training period
  • Attend orientation, faculty meetings and required professional development
  • Receive direction from the Director of Innovation and Engagement for planning and improvement



What You'll Earn

Salary will be $32.00-$45.00 an hour, commensurate with experience.

What You Have

Key Qualifications and Experience


  • Professional experience in digital art and/or design
  • Evidence of teaching potential in graphic design, web design, and/or animation
  • 2+ years of teaching experience with teens and/or young adults
  • Familiarity or knowledge of differentiated instruction
  • Experience working with disconnected youth and/or adults
  • Strong relational engagement and communication skills
  • Passion for inclusive education and familiarity with alternative learners
