Position Overview
Technicians will work in a shop environment repairing and performing preventative maintenance on Refuse and Recycling Trucks.
Duties and Responsibilities
Review the pre- and post-trip inspection sheets and perform necessary repairs to trucks and equipment.
Complete scheduled preventive maintenance service on all equipment.
Diagnoses malfunctions & repairs, rebuilds, and adjusts heavy-duty diesel-powered equipment.
Dismantles, rebuilds, replaces, and adjusts engines, brakes, transmission drivelines, electrical, fuel, exhaust, cooling, suspension & hydraulics in heavy-duty diesel trucks.
Repairs equipment using acetylene & arc welding tools.
Writes up brief descriptions of repair work performed & parts used.
Operates heavy equipment to insure proper working order.
Mechanics will be required to obtain a Forklift operator certificate at the company's expense.
Mechanics will follow company safety procedures and attend shop safety meetings.
Mechanics will assist in inspecting the truck parking area and in the cleanup of any spilled material.
On rare occasions a Mechanic may be asked to respond to an off-site location to assist in cleanups.
On occasion Mechanics may be asked to respond to a repair issue off company property regarding our fleet vehicles.
All maintenance duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications
Work experience on commercial vehicles/trucks.
Work experience in the waste industry is a PLUS.
Valid Driver’s License.
A Commercial Driver’s License is a PLUS.
Knowledge of operation & principles of diesel engines: methods, material, tools & equipment used in the repair of diesel-powered vehicles & related parts, hydraulic & air brake systems, electrical & cooling systems, automatic & standard transmissions, hydraulic pumps, motors & control valves.
Ability to recognize & diagnose heavy-duty diesel equipment mechanical problems, properly repair & adjust diesel equipment & parts, read & understand repair manuals & schematics, improvise repair of equipment, follow oral & written directions, work safely in & around equipment, safely operate refuse trucks, safely & properly operate tools & equipment in repairing & rebuilding diesel-powered equipment.
Mechanics will possess their own tools and the knowledge to use them safely.
Ability to understand instructions in written and verbal English.
Ability to work well under pressure, independently, or as a team.
Compensation
Technicians are being offered a $24-37 hourly rate with an overtime rate of $36-$55.50 when available.
A tool allowance program is available for all techs, up to $200 per month.
Work Environment and Expectations
This is a full-time, non-exempt in-shop position. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 2:00 pm to 12 am plus overtime if needed to get trucks up and running. Saturday on a rotation basis about once a month.
Technicians will be required to:
Possess the mobility to maneuver throughout the building and facility.
Use motor coordination with dexterity in arms, hands, fingers, and legs.
Be able to push, pull, bend, twist, and lift up to 50 pounds.
