Job description

Lab Technician

We are simply asking for wet lab skill set and we will train them on our end. This should eliminate some of the harder to find skill set and experience.

Important Note: the above-mentioned shift details is only for the first week. After the first week,(Hiring Team) will place them in a different time slot. So the candidate should be flexible in the shift.

Temp to Permanent: Based on the candidate performance and business needs.

PPE: Contingent worker should bring a bump cap and steel toed slip resistant shoes. Client will supply the beard net, hair net, gloves and any other PPE.

Day to day job duties :

List of Lab Duties

  • Running/Writing down milk receiving trucks and drink receiving trucks
  • Releasing/Writing down milk and cream samples from processing
  • Releasing/Writing down by-product samples from processing o Includes: Milk, Drinks, Cheese, and Sour Cream
  • Releasing/Writing down Drink and OJ Samples
  • Releasing/Writing down Cream Sales
  • Running/Writing down filler samples
  • Releasing/Writing down Dari Cream samples from tote filler
  • Plate PI's
  • Plating 7 day and VRBS
  • Plating OJ samples, Milk samples, By-product samples from fridge
  • Plating OJ stress and shelf-life
  • Read plates from incubator at designated time:

o 7 day

o VRBS

o OJ

o Coli plates (milk/cream, etc.)

o SPC plates (milk/cream, etc.)

o Yeast and Mold plates (By-products, Drinks, etc.)

o PI Plates

  • Testing water wash/vortex samples
  • Cheese 24 hr stress testing
  • Put Audit out in the morning
  • Check scales and metal detector(modern filler)
  • Swabbing Clean tanks and fillers
  • Washing Cryo tubes, test tubes, and Microscope slides
  • Putting Data into computer (infinity)
  • Testing F-AP for HTST milk samples
  • Checking/Releasing Sour Cream and Buttermilk PH's
  • Checking HR2 Vials
  • Night Shift Specific:

o Shelf-life (18 day and 19 day)

o Inventory

o Calibrate machines

o Change out water baths

o Stock and tidy up lab

o Calibrate CHARM at midnight

o Ropeys

o COA's

o Make positive and negative controls

Job Function:

The role of the Lab Technician is to fulfil the goal and objectives of the entire plant. Ensure accurate and timely product testing SO that Dairy products are manufactured within quality specifications. Monitor processing and production lines to ensure that GMP's are followed. Prevent costly errors by production personnel. Ensure that the shift contributes to the best financial interests of Vandervoort Dairy.

Duties and Responsibilities:

General:

1. Follow all GMP and Dairy Plant policies and procedures.

2. Maintain a high work ethic.

3. Give input and ideas on improving job and department.

4. Any assignments from the management team.

5. Test finished products for proper manufacturing and adherence to quality specifications.

6. Test incoming raw milk, water, and ingredients for compliance with government regulations and company quality specifications.

7. Perform shift inspections for GMP's, equipment, temperature, and sanitation checks.

8. Prepare vitamin samples, water samples and environmental swabs for testing by outside laboratories.

9. Conduct ATP pre-start inspections of fillers, tanks, lines, and other equipment, as necessary.

10. Calibrate lab equipment and plant thermometers.

11. Perform work safely and efficiently to prevent delays on productions lines.

12. Keep Lab clean.

Train other Lab technicians, as necessary.

14. Keep supervisors informed of problems or achievements.

15. Suggest ideas or solution to improve efficiencies, housekeeping, etc.

16. All other duties as assigned by the Lab Foreperson and/or QA Manager.

17. Perform all duties of a laboratory associate when needed.

Labor Control:

1. Work shifts as scheduled

2. Record all shifts in the time and attendance system

3. Achieve established benchmarks by working with a sense of urgency

4. Work overtime only with supervisor's approval

5. Keep lunches within prescribed limits

6. Meet already times

Supply Control:

1. Control excessive use of supplies

2. Strive to meet or exceed shrink to ensure 1% each month

Inventory Control:

1. Make sure all paperwork is neatly and accurately completed.

2. Follow all inventory checkout procedures.

3. Keep the Purchaser, Maintenance Supervisor, and Plant Engineer aware of over or shorts on inventory.

4. Follow proper procedures for “hold product” and keep QA and Plant management informed of inventory placed on hold during shift.

Security:

1. Check outside doors to ensure they are locked.

2. Wear Dairy ID Badge, always, while in the Plant.

3. Comply with any Company security programs.

4. always Protect company assets.

Safety:

1. Become a BOS observer (behavioural observations system for BAPP).

2. Abide by all safe work practice and safety rules.

3. Maintain a clean, safe work environment by bringing all unsafe equipment or conditions to the attention of your supervisor and/or safety representative.

4. Wear all safety equipment and PPE (personal protection equipment).

5. Complete two (2) safety goals chosen on annual performance appraisal.

I- 5:

1. Be open and willing to try new ideas.

2. Give and seek honest feedback towards reliability initiative.

3. Share ideas that would increase equipment reliability.

4. If there is a problem with equipment, the associate needs to notify management and/or maintenance.

5. Be willing to participate in reliability committees.

1. High school education, plus two years of college required.

Salary: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour
