POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Biomedical Equipment Technician I (Dialysis), you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of dialysis equipment used in medical facilities. Your role is crucial in ensuring that dialysis machines operate efficiently and effectively, thereby supporting the treatment of patients with kidney failure or impaired kidney function. This position is required to maintain records, document results and coordinates outside resources for repairs. Response times are measured to achieve customer requirements and satisfaction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct routine maintenance on dialysis machines according to manufacturer guidelines. This includes cleaning, inspecting, and replacing parts as necessary to ensure optimal performance and longevity of equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair malfunctions in dialysis equipment promptly to minimize downtime and ensure uninterrupted patient care. This may involve troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, or software issues.
  • Calibrate dialysis machines to ensure accurate measurement and delivery of dialysis fluid and other parameters critical for treatment. Maintain calibration records in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Maintain detailed records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and parts replacements. Keep track of equipment warranties, service contracts, and inventory levels to facilitate efficient workflow and budget management.
  • Provide training and guidance to dialysis clinic staff on the proper use and maintenance of dialysis equipment. Stay informed about modern technologies and updates in the field to enhance technical expertise.
  • Participate in quality assurance programs to monitor and improve the performance of dialysis equipment. Follow established protocols for testing and validation to ensure equipment meets safety and regulatory standards.
  • Respond promptly to equipment failures or emergencies, including after-hours calls, to address critical issues and minimize disruptions to patient care. Coordinate with healthcare providers and support teams as needed to resolve problems efficiently.
  • Performs repairs and calibrations to biomedical equipment and maintains associated records by filing accurately and timely reports with Dispatcher.
  • Solve problems utilizing analytical thought process which may involve multiple contacts with internal and external resources.
  • Interacts with vendors. Research resources and suppliers.
  • Complies with facility and company policy and procedure guidelines.
  • Maintains work area in a neat and orderly fashion.
  • Conducts and maintains duties, personal appearance, interactions with fellow employees, staff, and customers in a professional manner.
  • To comply with ongoing educational opportunities provided. Uses unassigned time to increase knowledge on technology and procedures.
  • Understands and works well with the auditing agencies and their requirements i.e., ACHA, TJC.
  • Understands NFPA-99 and electrical leakage limits with good understanding of biological parameters (monitoring; HR/Pulse O2/O2 sat/pressures/etc.)
  • Assists Senior Management as needed.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are within the scope of the duties in this job classification.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certification in biomedical equipment repair, electronics, or related field preferred.
  • Proven experience in maintenance and repair of medical equipment, particularly dialysis machines.
  • Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems, with the ability to troubleshoot and diagnose technical issues accurately.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols and regulatory requirements applicable to medical device maintenance.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with healthcare professionals and support staff.
  • Meticulous approach with a commitment to accuracy and thorough documentation.
  • Flexibility to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to stay current with industry advancements.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS

Requires frequent (60% to 80% of the time) standing, walking, and bending for extended periods of time. Lifts up to 50 pounds regularly.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Requires constant contact with staff and public. Work is performed in air conditioned/heated facilities. Requires exposure to outside elements up to 10% of the time.
