Development Coordinator Job Description
The CAO Research Foundation, headquartered in Washington, DC, is seeking candidates for the position of part-time (1/2-FTE) Development Coordinator.
The CAO Research Foundation (CAORF) is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve patients’ lives through collaborative support of orthopaedic and musculoskeletal research. We strive to serve our community by addressing common orthopaedic, musculoskeletal, and sports-related injuries and by prioritizing practical research with wide-ranging potential applications. The Foundation’s activities will include a diverse array of initiatives to advance the medical and scientific community’s knowledge of these injuries, including their prevention and treatment.
Position Description:
The ideal candidate is a self-starter, creative and organized. The Development Coordinator will work with the CAORF Executive Director, Staff, Board and fundraising counsel.
Reporting to the CAORF Executive Director, the Development Coordinator's responsibilities include:
● Take the lead role in drafting the CAORF Case for Support
● Assist with drafting content for the CAO communications on CAORF on donor profiles, recognition and ways of giving
● Design underwriting/recognition opportunities for individuals and corporate donors to support current and planned research projects
● Update / design CAORF collateral materials for volunteers and staff to share with potential donors
● Draft content for CAO communications on CAORF programs and giving information
● Capture testimonials and headshots from those who have conducted, supported and benefitted from CAORF research
● Design/develop a ‘Support CAORF’ webpage and prepare content on annual giving, major/planned giving, donor recognition, and program impact with prominent placement on the CAO (cfaortho.org) web page
● Develop a rolling 12-month communications plan/grid (updating/extending it semi-annually) plotting how, when and which messages should be pushed through different channels, including regular mail, email and social media
● Ensure that philanthropy is highlighted at the CAO annual meeting (and at other meetings, as appropriate) at a dedicated location where members and corporate representatives can learn more about the CAORF research programs and/or make a gift
● Develop a naming structure and recognition benefits for leadership level ($1,000+)
Annual Giving donors
● Enlist Board members to make regular thank you/stewardship calls to donors and/or personal handwritten notes to provide the “personal touch” and to strengthen the relationship with each donor
● Implement an Annual Report to recap the programmatic successes during each calendar year and to recognize the individuals and companies who helped make this success possible through their support
● Recognize donors through the various opportunities at CAO Annual Conference and other meetings, as appropriate
● Establish a centralized database and track giving history, interests and involvement of individual, company and foundation constituents
● Develop a consistent coding system to track all individual and corporate contributions, integrated with the accounting function
● Other duties as assigned
Education/Experience: College degree with three to five years of fundraising/communications experience with one or more nonprofit organizations.
Special Skills/Requirements: Excellent oral and written communication and strong organizational skills are required. Knowledge of fundraising database software is preferred.
Compensation: This is a sub-contractor position based on a 20-hour work week. The compensation range, per annum, is $30,000 - $40,000, based on experience. Full-time positions are being considered.
