Development Associate, Western Region - Office of Advancement - Georgetown University
Job Overview
The Development Associate (DA) for Western Regionplays a key role as a self-starter within the Western Development team and at the Office of Advancement. They work closely with frontline development officers through a partnership designed to grow talent and build a pipeline for future frontline development officers who are interested in making their careers at Georgetown. Through this partnership, the DA ensures the relevant frontline fundraisers get the high-level administrative and strategic support they need to properly maintain an outward focus on building relationships and closing gifts.
The DA's role is designed to serve as a learning and training experience, structured to grow the talent of the Development Associate towards a career in the Office of Advancement. Very significantly, they are joining Georgetown during a pivotal moment of the University's comprehensive campaign with a goal of raising $3 billion by 2026.
The DA is responsible for portfolio review, maintenance, and strategy; the identification and research of potential donors to the university; and provision of full-spectrum support to development officers, including but not limited to management of travel, expenses, meeting preparation, and regional event logistics.
They provide accurate, timely, and comprehensive analysis and information about prospective donors from the Western region; and engage in the identification and reporting of new prospective donors for placement in fundraiser portfolios, using weekly gift reports and other data pulled from Georgetown University's Donor Management platform called GU360 (Salesforce for Georgetown).
The DA provides general development support for a small number of major gift officers, including assisting with budgets, travel, staff solicitation visits, weekly gift reports, and donor information; and entering prospect strategies in donor profiles and tracking the Western team's campaign pipeline. They are also responsible for the gift process: entering and tracking asks and proposals, and facilitating Gift Agreements/Statements of Intent and gift transmittal forms.
Additionally, they support advancement events for the Western Development team, in duties such as coordinating with internal colleagues, drafting and sending invitations, staffing events and managing RSVPs, and writing briefings and attendee follow up.
The diversity of the Development Associate's workload requires effective communication skills, teamwork, flexibility, efficiency, attention to detail, external relations focus, and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines for a wide variety of assignments. It also requires tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality in interactions with members of the University community and the University's donors.
Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

Through their contributions, the DA significantly impacts the success of the fundraising activities of the Office of Advancement. They interact with donors, prospective donors, and other alumni who will be positively affected by interacting with a courteous and professional member of the Advancement team. As well, they interact with most of the rest of Advancement, for example, Campaign Operations, Stewardship, Donor Relations, Marketing and Communications, Prospect Research, Alumni Relations, and Annual Fund.
