BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:
The P ET DESKTOP SERVICES Department of the P INFO TECHNOLOGY & SVCS Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: Professional)
JOB FUNCTION:
Works independently and in collaboration with others to perform detailed analysis and design of information systems, including processes, programs, files/databases, and on-line tools and reports, to meet company and/or customer requirements within budget and time constraints. Manages or coordinates small to medium-sized projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Collaborates with development staff; IT Business Solutions Consultants, consultants, vendors, and/or customer personnel to analyze work processes; performs detailed analysis and design of information systems and applications, including new development or modification or integration of existing systems or software applications. Participates, as needed, in departmental task forces and cost/benefit reviews.
  • Programs/adapts, tests, documents, and implements information systems and/or software applications to meet client/customer needs (new or modifications). Provides technical support. Coordinates and/or handles second- level technical support for Help Line, as/if needed.
  • Participates as part of a team to coordinate the work of Development Specialists and/or Lead Functional Analysts on small/medium-sized projects or segments of large-scale projects; provides research, programming, documentation, testing, and training support for the development and implementation of information systems and software applications.
  • Assists in assessing customer needs; serves as lead contact for system and software application support; communicates project status and issues upward and to the customers.
  • Trains/assists Development Specialists on tools and techniques used to analyze, develop, test, and document information systems and software applications. Trains customers to make the best use of information systems and software applications.
  • Provides feedback regarding performance evaluations for team members; recommends project staffing; assists with project budgets and operating forecast development; and performs other staff functions as needed.
  • Work solely or in concert with others to author requisite documentation to meet a variety of company needs, be it text for rate case or project filings, responses to information requests from interveners, cost benefit analyses, department/team strategies, etc.
  • Remain on-call/available for both scheduled and unscheduled work. Said work is occasionally required outside normal business hours and on weekends.
  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.
  • Other duties as assigned.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge Requirements
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles of information technology and software development normally acquired through college level courses or equivalent experience.
  • Working knowledge of utility business, business and/or engineering principles & practices.
  • Working knowledge of Unix, client-server/multi-tier, and workstation/PC/Internet technologies and systems and software application development.
  • Good understanding of application interfacing concepts, basic reporting and database development and support.
  • Ability to document and execute an integrated test plan and a user acceptance test plan.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical design and maintain comprehensive technical documentation.
  • Ability to comply with, and contribute to, system configuration and software application standards and guidelines.
  • Ability to maintain status of tasks, defects, issues, and support requests on a daily basis in an appropriate tool.
  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.

Skills Requirements
  • Common to all teams: Knowledge, experience and ability to design, code, test, and implement programs in one or more of the following languages/systems: ABAP, Business Object, C/C++/C#, shell scripting, Perl, PHP, Python, Java, SQL, PL/SQL, Microsoft .Net, Javascript, XML, HTML, on Windows and Unix platforms.
  • For the GIS team: More specific skills needed in ESRI ArcGIS, ESRI webapp solutions, and Bentley's Microstation MDL. Desired knowledge of GIS model concepts and requirements for associated applications like outage management/ADMS.
  • For the ESS team: More specific skills needed in SAP (Asset Management, Finance, HCM, Supply Chain, Work Management, Solution Manager, ARIS, etc...) and other tools and systems that integrate with SAP.
  • Prior job experience working with large data sets and database applications such as but not limited to Oracle or SAP.
  • Prior job experience configuring vendor-supplied software such as but not limited to Oracle or SAP.
  • Able to employ project/program life-cycle techniques (e.g., SDLC) in managing programming and/or analysis projects for both custom and vendor-supplied software.
  • Ability to design/develop databases within scope of projects.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively (written and oral) with a variety of individuals (e.g., working with customers to ensure successful projects).
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills; in-depth analytical and conceptual skills to handle various projects and programs; ability to independently plan, direct and perform work for self and others.

Experience Requirements
  • Several (3-5) years programming/support experience in a computing environment or commensurate demonstration of requisite skills (e.g., Unix, client-server, CADDS, PC/Internet/e- Business) using one or more of the languages and techniques employed at Hawaiian Electric.
  • A few (1-2) years analytical experience in simple to complex systems.

Hiring Range: The hiring range for the DEVELOPMENT ANALYST [Req ID 8904] position is $84,000.00 to $107,200.00. The person selected will be placed according to his/her skills and qualifications.
