Applicants MUST BE LOCAL TO NYC/NJ/SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT AREA
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Administer NetBackup Master and Media servers
• Monitor NetBackup jobs, rescheduling failed jobs as appropriate
• Resolve media and drive resource contention during production hours
• Work independently and coordinate with different operating systems' teams, as necessary, to troubleshoot backup issues
• Perform backup/restore requests for Windows, Unix/Linux and VMware environment
• Generate Daily Status Reports for backup environment
• Reach out to application owners on regular basis to discuss their backup requirements and future growth projections
• Work with system/application owners to run ad hoc backups before/after major system upgrades/updates.
• Maintain current knowledge regarding latest releases and fixes that effect the environment
• Maintain current knowledge regarding latest backup and storage technologies and trends
• Responsible for responding to support tickets and coordinating with different vendors including Symantec, Dell, EMC, VMware, IBM, etc.
• Responsible for creating and maintaining procedural, project status and product documentation for backup and storage environment projects.
• Monitor Enterprise Backup Storage Infrastructure using various administrative tools
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE/ DEPARTMENTAL
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience required
• Ability to work in a team based environment with minimal supervision
• Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience directly managing day to day operations of a NetBackup environment (6.x and/or 7.x), with a solid understanding of NetBackup policies, scheduling and backup methodology in a heterogeneous environment
• Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience working with Enterprise class infrastructure technologies, including hands-on server management, administration and troubleshooting
• Solid understanding of Windows, UNIX (AIX/Solaris) and Linux (SUSE/Red Hat) operating systems, including networking and storage configuration
• Experience in managing and troubleshooting hardware issues on all components of backup infrastructure, including Dell x86 servers, tape storage devices, disk-based backup storage hardware and fiber channel switch connectivity
• Hands-on experience with configuring and performing database backups and restores, including MS SQL on Windows clusters, and Oracle RMAN backups on AIX systems
• Hands-on experience with configuring, managing and troubleshooting VMware VCB backups via NetBackup.
• Experience with configuring and managing NDMP backups of NAS storage
• Experience in using NOM/OPS Center for monitoring a NetBackup environment
• Experience in using NetBackup command line functionalities, NetBackup tuning parameters and scripting
• Experience in managing EMC storage hardware, including VMAX, VNX, ISILON, XTREMIO and and/or Hitachi VSP/G1500/USP-V and EMC DataDomain 880/990/9500 is a plus
• Experience with OpenVMS, IBM Power Hardware, and TSM are a plus
• Experience backing up SAN Clones with Netbackup would be a plus
• Participate in special projects as needed and perform other duties as assigned
• Must be able to work independently as well as work as part of a fast moving team
CORPORATE REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, applied Mathematics, Business Administration, Economics/Statistics, Telecommunications, Data Communications, or a related field of study; and
• Five (5) years of progressive, responsible experience in the field of data processing, computer systems, and applications. Operations Specialty requires supervisory experience (5 years). Network Services requires a telecommunications background and experience.
• Broad knowledge and expertise in the characteristics of computers, peripheral devices, communications systems and hardware capabilities, programming languages, E.D.P. applications, systems analysis methodology, data management and retrieval techniques;
Minimum Qualifications:
A Developer assists in designing, developing, and supporting applications. These applications include systems developed solely for the web environment as well as development efforts designed to web-enable end-user applications. This individual may also assist in the creation and ongoing management of corporate web sites and intranet communities. The Developer will have a thorough understanding of programming techniques and tools, web development, and system management tools.
General Tasks and Responsibilities Will Include: • Develop and understand all features of each a module and their impact on other modules. • Analyze and develop understanding of how data flows through the system and apply that knowledge to the current business model. • Identify and define system errors and/or deficiencies. • Liaise with other developers (i.e: software, application, web, etc) to determine b est path solutions and manage the priorities through collaboration with internal stakeholders. • Plan and coordinate testing and implementation of system patches and upgrades leading a cross functional team of power users. • Extract key business performance metrics. • Analyze user needs and software requirements to determine areas of opportunity for increased efficiencies. • Create written user documentation, instructions, and procedures for the purpose of training new employees and improving over-all user proficiency. • Evaluate new technologies for potential implementation including development of business justification and project implementation planning, when appropriate. • Utilizing in-house or external resources, manage the network and related hardware. Ensure that help-desk tasks are promptly addressed and resolved
Educational Level:
• A Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, applied Mathematics, Business Administration, Economics/Statistics, Telecommunications, Data Communications, or a related field of study; and
• Five (5) years of progressive, responsible experience in the field of data processing, computer systems, and applications.

• Network Services requires a telecommunications background and experience.

• A satisfactory equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
Years of Experience:
• Five (5) years of progressive, responsible experience in the field of data processing, computer systems, and applications.
• Operations Specialty requires supervisory experience (5 years).
