Idaho National Laboratory's (INL) National & Homeland Security Operations group is seeking a Coordinated Vulnerability Awareness Analyst.

Our team works on-site 9x80 schedule located at our Energy Security Research Laboratory with every other Friday off!

This is an entry level position for vulnerability and threat analyst within National & Homeland Security (NHS) Directorate's new research acceleration portfolio. It will report the NHS's Chief Operations Officer (COO) while a new organization is established that is focused on the agile program start-ups and external partner consortiums that support the strategic needs of NHS's Chief Science Officer, Chief Technology Officer, and Chief Cybersecurity Scientist. 

These consortiums and their programs cooperate across not only NHS Divisions and INL Directorates, but rely heavily on outside resources from both formal and emerging national consortiums of partnerships with industry, national labs, multiple agencies, and leading academic institutions. The person in this position is expected to provide entry-level, hands-on technical support to national teams of research leaders working to transform reactive vulnerability finding processes to more proactive weakness mitigation approaches. 

Responsibilities Include:

This team seeks to formalize the definition, structure, and processing of security properties to address weaknesses that encompass multiple classes of vulnerabilities to ensure digital systems can verify their security posture proactively throughout the design, implementation, and operations lifecycle.  Long-term this position is expected to support multiple programs besides CyManII to cross-pollinate the insights from both CyManII R&D and other operational cyber threat and vulnerability programs.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Support is the Cybersecurity Manufacturing Innovation Institute (CyManII), including the Coordinated Vulnerability Awareness (CVA) team)
  • Support multiple programs besides CyManII to cross-pollinate the insights from both CyManII R&D and other operational cyber threat and vulnerability programs.
  • Expected to participate, understand, and facilitate input into Department of Homeland Security and Department of Energy sponsored activities with Coordinated Weakness Enumeration (CWE) and Coordinated Vulnerability Enumeration (CVE) that support more systematic and/or automated mitigation of weaknesses.
  • Candidates need exceptional abilities in learning new concepts, team-oriented work ethic, and communication skills to navigate diverse audiences and workgroup dialogues.
  • Support generation of threat analysis reports from all source intelligence to provide insights into CWE and CVE activities or other outside project needs, cross-over support from CWE to Cyber Informed Engineering (CIE) programs and products, as well as periodic hands-on activities such as installation and analysis of threat hunting tools into R&D and internal pilot laboratory environments. 
  • Investigative tasking as assigned from executive leadership to support new proposals in the research acceleration portfolio.

Minimum Requirements:

  • PR0100: Baccalaureate degree in computer science, computer engineering, or homeland security / threat analysis with degree focus or capstone projects in cybersecurity.   
  • Internship or academic practicum experience with MITRE ATT&CK Techniques, Tactics, & Procedures (TTP), CVE, CWE, and CAPEC structures.
  • Internship or academic experience with threat mapping tools, intrusion detection systems, or threat hunting tools.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work-in, contribute, and excel in team environments.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Current clearance with US Government is preferred.
  • Must be able to work in dynamic research environment, meeting project and sponsor commitments while maintaining quality of work and a professional interface with entire team.

  • PR0100: Salary Grade 190 ($70,680 - $116,616)
