Design Supervisor- Environments (Cg)

We are seeking an experienced Design Supervisor- Environments (CG) for an exciting, unannounced CG animated project. The Design Supervisor- Environments (CG) is responsible for leading our modeling team in the creation of complex CG environments and set models for our upcoming animated series. The ideal candidate will have a robust understanding of 3D modeling, be able to interpret creative direction, and manage both the artistic and technical aspects of the modeling department to meet production goals.

Sony Pictures Animation is a pre-production animation studio based in Culver City, California, creating both feature animation and animated series with artists from around the world. • Collaborate with the Production Designer, Art Director, and CG Supervisor to build and execute detailed CG environment/set models, ensuring that the creative direction is accurately translated into the models.
• Manage the complexity of set models, maintaining high department standards that facilitate efficient workflow throughout the production pipeline.
• Proactively attend reviews across departments to address any questions or comments related to environment modeling.
• Coordinate with the CG Supervisor and other departments to ensure modeling needs are communicated and other departments' requirements are met.
• Oversee the presentation of environment models, ensuring they meet production standards.
• Engage in vendor asset reviews, providing detailed feedback, paintovers, and, if necessary, internal fixes to models.
• Collaborate with TDs, R&D, and Production Management to enhance production pipelines and methodologies.
• Convey requests for new tool development and improvements to existing tools to R&D and the CG Supervisor.

• Effectively communicate issues and solutions to Production Management, maintaining transparency and efficiency.
• Partner with Production to manage the department's schedule, meeting quotas and deadlines.
• Assist the Production Supervisor with casting shots/assignments and mentor modelers to foster their professional growth.
• Participate in performance reviews, helping to address and resolve any performance-related issues.
• Contribute to a positive work environment and maintain crew morale.
• Work with management on casting and staffing, ensuring the selection of suitable talent for the production.
• Support recruiting efforts, conduct interviews, and oversee training for new hires.
• Organize meetings to keep the team updated on production changes and requirements.

• Extensive experience in CG environment modeling and supervision within the animation or VFX industry.
• Strong portfolio showcasing a wide range of modeling work, including complex environments.
• Proficient in 3D modeling software such as Maya, Blender, or similar.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced production environment.
• Bachelor's degree in Animation, Film, Computer Graphics, or a related field is preferred.

The anticipated base salary for this position is $1,800/week to $3,000/week. This role qualifies for benefits pursuant to the collective bargaining agreement. The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors.
