SUMMARY: The position of Design Manager - EPC Utility Scale Solar has been established to enhance the profitability of the business by providing additional revenue through the development and construction of 20-60MW EPC Solar projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include but not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Perform Design and Estimating requests in full support of project scope, schedule, budget and defined quality.
- Perform Engineering activities in full support of project scopes, schedules and budgets.
- Maintain quality, reliability and safety standards for engineering documentation and design.
- Comply with document control processes and standards.
- Provide timely competent engineering technical support to Field and Estimating personnel as required.
- Provide suggestions and engineering solutions as requested by Operations personnel.
- Participate in company-sponsored training and identify applicable avenues of educational enhancements.
- Anticipate potential opportunities or problems so they can be promptly addressed.
- Compute cost factors and prepare estimates used for management purposes, preparing bids, selecting vendors or subcontractors and determining cost effectiveness.
- Analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals and other documentation and complete quantity survey to prepare time, cost and labor estimates for projects, applying knowledge of specialized methodologies, techniques, principles or processes.
- Assist Pre-construction in soliciting subcontractor and material/equipment quotes for estimating purposes.
- Review and negotiate Baker T&Cs with major material providers and subcontractors.
- Attend meetings with the design team and customers to represent Baker and its subcontracting team.
- Review submittal drawings and specifications to ensure that design build budget is not exceeded.
- Track potential scope increases and decreases for cost accounting.
- Prepare preliminary bid summary for review with Division Manager and VP.
- Organize and coordinate the activities of bid day to ensure the bid is complete and on time.
- Review RFPs including Geotechnical reports to ensure the design meets RFP requirements.
- Generate RFIs when appropriate prior to bidding and send to appropriate entity.
- Track permits and MMRP though the AHJ requirements.
- Assist design engineers and owners with coordination of interconnection with utilities.
- Participate in meetings of estimating personnel to discuss project bids and review job cost information to improve estimating methods and procedures.
- Understand and work with SCADA subcontractors in the development of key turn solar projects.
- Assist Project Manager in estimating change orders or any other project change conditions.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE:
- Occupational certificate or equivalent with a minimum of 5 years of solar/electrical experience.
- Electrical Engineering degree or acceptable work experience is preferred.
- Technical skills should include the ability to read substation design drawings; understand solar systems; perform basic calculations; complete basic solar design layout.
- Understand project sequence and create preliminary construction schedules.
- Good understanding of the National Electrical Code and municipal plan check requirements.
- Above average skill levels in drafting, AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Two years minimum experience in Electrical Estimating or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A valid CA Driver's License is required.

The starting salary for this opportunity range is listed.
