Were looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onwards toward certifying the Joby aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration, scaling our manufacturing, and preparing to launch commercial service in 2025.

Joby Aviation is seeking a passionate student to join the Design for Reliability team in San Carlos, CA as a Reliability Engineering Intern. This individual would be responsible for analyzing design using risk assessment for electrical propulsion, energy systems, and mechanical structures. This role will involve collaborating with the reliability, mechanical, electrical, and test engineers. The work starts at the design stage through full modeling and testing.


  • Mechanical design understanding of components and structures.
  • Help Reliability engineers identify risks and propose solutions.
  • Participate in Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA)
  • Acquire analysis and/or test data, analyze the data, and document test results.
  • As part of your internship, you will be learning about Design for Reliability, the physics of failure, and other reliability toolsets.

  • Students pursuing BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechatronics, or an equivalent field.
  • Familiar with mechanical design, materials selection, kinematics, troubleshooting, and analysis Familiarity with mechanical CAD design and tools.
  • Knows or is willing to learn problem-solving techniques.
  • Have a can-do attitude and growth mindset.

  • Experience with Solidworks/CATIA CAD.
  • Relocation Assistance: This position does not offer relocation assistance. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense. 

  

The pay range for undergraduate interns, which includes freshman to senior level students, is $20-32/hr. The pay range for graduate interns with a Bachelor, Master, and/or Ph.D. degree is $5,400-$7,500/month. Individual pay is determined by internship role, department, experience, job-related skills, and level of education.
