What you will do

As a Design Engineer, you will design customized vacuum driven end of arm tooling detailed to fit customer specified systems. Joulin tools are designed to be durable, efficient, and handle a diverse array of products. As a manufacturing facility, a Design Engineer at Joulin should also work to understand the downstream processes required to bring a design to completion. This means members of the Design Team must learn both the capabilities and limitations of the equipment and their operators. In this role, you should be highly creative and detail-oriented.
You will
- Design, develop and test all aspects of mechanical components, equipment and machinery
- Utilize standard designs and componentry when feasible to ease manufacturing and maintain cost control.
- Apply knowledge of engineering principles to improve and design products
- Product development projects interfacing with customer and all internal departments
- Provide technical documents for customer (Bill of Materials, electrical and pneumatic schematics)
- Design, detail, and release finished component drawings related to material handling equipment (e.g. welded components, sheet metal fabrication, machining prints, etc.)
You will report directly to the Project Manager, Joulin, Vacuum Automation division, and the position is based in Hickory, NC. In this role, you will work closely with the Design Team and other departments central to the company as well as representatives of Piab.You are required to act accordingly to the Piab Code of Conduct and know and follow the Piab values, mission, and routines. This role also requires travel to both Piab and external parties’ global destinations when applicable.

Skills, Experience, and Educational Background
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering – mechanical or electrical or related field
- 3 years of experience as mechanical Design Engineer
- 3D Modelling / CAD design software experience: Solid Edge or SolidWorks
- PLM systems and graphics editing tools (e.g. photoshop, CorelDRAW)
- Familiarity with design techniques (e.g. prototyping)
- Understanding of visual elements (layout, type, and fonts)
- Effective communication skills: verbal and written
- Demonstrates strong leadership skills
- Customer orientation
