Position Overview
The Design Engineer II is responsible for creating fiber designs for OSP or ISP construction that are effective and efficient solutions for the customer. Additionally, this position performs quality audits on work produced by colleagues.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Design and develop layouts for OSP and ISP Fiber design
- Generation of bills of materials, splice sheets, and other supporting documentation for the design
- Review completed designs for errors and efficiency
- Develop ISP Patch panel diagrams/cable rack layouts
- Ensure design specifications are maintained
- Adhere to appropriate quality standards set out in the design requirements
- Review/Audit the work of other designers to ensure errors and inefficiencies in design are identified and corrected
- Other projects or duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, GIS, or a related discipline or certification in Drafting
- 3 yrs+ ArcGIS/ESRI Products work experience required (outside of school)
- 2 yrs+ experience as a Design Engineer, Level 1 in Telecommunications Industry required
- In-depth knowledge of FTTH/Telecom industry design principles required
- Proficiency in the use of AutoCAD software (2+ years of work experience) is preferred
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to multitask and work on multiple projects coupled with experience in working with fast-paced engineering in a production environment
- Strong organizational skills
- Flexibility to work shift differential hours
- Attention to detail is a must
- Competence in design methodology, process, and metrics
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to write lisp routines and other CAD-assistance programs is a plus
- High integrity and strong work ethic
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- May experience long hours of standing and moving
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
