Position Overview & Duties

Do you also have interest in how business operations run and how that ties into your design project? Then a Design Coordinator position at Benjamin Marcus Homes, may be for you! This position will play an integral role in office operations, and the customer new home-buying and remodeling experiences, as well as the growth of the business. We envision this role wearing several hats, spanning between design and operations. Qualified candidates would have a friendly demeanor, be customer service oriented and a self-starter, and have the ability to manage tasks in a fast-paced environment, while meeting project deadlines.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Managing projects and assisting customers throughout the life cycle of a new home build, from initial design through installation of materials and project closeout, while providing a fun and enjoyable luxury home buying experience.
- Working with customers to coordinate various design elements of remodeling projects, taking in to account current layouts and ensuring a fluid transition from the existing home to the updated installations;
- Serving as project liaison between the business, customers and trade partners, ensuring proper selections and specifications are installed in the home;
- Maintaining superior product knowledge to ensure accurate, helpful and insightful information is always provided to customers;
- Preparing draft design proposals for customers, with the utmost accuracy and detail;
- Assisting in compiling bids and project costing, utilizing builder software;
- Preparing related purchase orders for management review, based on the approved design elements of the projects;
- Maintaining contract related documents and office files;
- Assisting the lead in building permitting and utility applications when needed;
Offer is contingent upon successful completion of a drug and background screen.
This position is located at Benjamin Marcus Homes, a family owned, custom home building business located in the South Hills of Pittsburgh.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or equivalent
- Extremely knowledgeable and trained on products utilized in new home construction, such as trim moldings, granite, cabinetry, flooring, plumbing, brick, roofing, etc.
- Competent in the Windows Operating system, MAC operating system, IOS devices, Microsoft Office Suite (with emphasis on Excel), and Google Applications
- 5+ years relevant prior work experience in interior design, product management, and new home project costing
- Experience shepherding customers throughout the life cycle of the new home design & build, OR remodel processes
- Ability to utilize builder software tools, with little to no assistance or oversight
- Strong understanding of the integration and relationship between design and construction (a strong candidate will have had experience working closely and partnering with Construction teams in the field)
- Detail oriented, extremely organized, and motivated
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in production design - build is preferred
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp or equivalent software, not required but is a plus
- Experience or willingness to learn 2020 Software / Cabinet designs a plus
Hours of Operation
- BMH core hours of operation are Monday - Friday, 8am - 4:30pm at the Southpointe Design Gallery, with frequent site visits to our 12 developments in the North hills and South hills (mileage reimbursement eligible)
- This position may require appointments with clients on Saturdays, and some appointments in the evenings Monday through Friday (which will be scheduled by appointment, in advance).
