POSITION TITLE: Design Assistant
DEPARTMENT: Design / Build
SALARY RANGE: $21.60 hr. - $24.00 hr.
CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time,Non Exempt
REPORTS TO: Designer, Sr. Designer, Sr Design Associate
LOCATION: Denver, CO

POSITION SUMMARY:
As the Design Assistant, it is your primary responsibility to assist the Design Team in site inventory and analysis; at times you’ll also be asked to perform other design tasks, as well as marketing, research, etc.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Site Inventory/Analysis
- Track and schedule inventory requests from design team
- Communicate effectively with clients regarding inventory scheduling
- Call for utility locates
- Take site measurements and shoot photos documenting existing conditions including drainage, views, overhead elements, microclimates, access, etc.
- Identify existing plant material
- Shoot grades using Zip Level
- Take irrigation readings and note irrigation equipment locations on site
- Draw site plan and scale in AutoCAD
- Train and shadow Design interns on Inventory SOP
Design
- Develop landscape plan in AutoCAD using Designer’s redline as guide as needed
- Provide detailed dimensions and annotations as needed
- Compile plant pictures, renderings, product brochures/info and sketch ups as needed
- Gather material samples as needed
- Assist designer/design associate on pre and post construction documentation, including printing plans, job pack assembly, as-built plans
- Perform takeoffs accurately for all landscape materials.
- Perform basic estimating and create accurate proposals in Aspire software, follow estimating checklist and SOP
Additional
- Misc. marketing or office tasks when needed
- Answer phones, marketing, attend business development after hour events, Work Home & Garden Show, keep design center tidy, water plants
- Research and share new technology (or design trends) throughout the year
- Always communicate with clients in a professional manner
- Ability to manage co-worker, vendor, and client issues as needed
- Stock and keep inventory of design center supplies
- Sample shelf management
JOB SPECIFICATIONS / QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Training: H.S. Degree / GED College Degree Certification/License*
Training and Certifications:
- Associates Degree or higher preferred in Landscape Design or related field
Qualifications:
- Valid driver’s license with approval from fleet insurance carrier (Required)
- Strong organizational and communication skills, both oral and written
- Professional graphic presentation and rendering skills
- Basic understanding of grading and drainage, AutoCAD and plant identification
- Experience with AutoCAD software, Microsoft Office Suite (Sketch Up, Photoshop, Land FX preferred)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Landscape design, construction, and horticulture knowledge preferred
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
