Position: DE/SAR Underwriter (Wholesale Mortgage)

Position Status: Full Time

Reports to: Chief Operations Officer

Location: Richardson, TX (In Office Required)

Summary:

We are looking for an experienced mortgage underwriter to evaluate and determine the eligibility of loan applications. This position will require close attention to detail to analyze and ensure that all documentation follows relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Evaluate loan applications for risk and various criteria such as investor requirements, accuracy, consistency, and completeness
• Calculate income using documentation required per investor, questioning any large changes in income. Knowledge of how to calculate Bank Statement and RSU income is preferred
• Analyze borrower's loan-to-value ratio, debt-to-income ratio, credit report, application, income and assets, source(s) of down payment funds, and supporting documentation to identify potential fraud or misrepresentation
• Verify that rate locks match the underwriting file with the correct program, LTV, credit score and pre-payment penalty
• Maintain working knowledge of agency and investor guidelines and policies
• Mentor staff on underwriting deficiencies and calculation errors
• Communicates effectively and engages proactively with Account Executives, Funders, Post-Closers, and Management regarding loan decisions, assignment of loan conditions, investor guideline/documentation requirements and possible loan scenarios
• Applies knowledge of underwriting and pre-underwriting to best serve loan applicant and investor needs
• Supports the organization’s goals and values, gives, and welcomes feedback and contributes to building a positive team spirit
• Additional responsibilities as management sees fit

Qualifications and Professional Experience:

• Minimum 5 years of experience (recent experience in the last 3 years) in Mortgage Lending with at least 3 years of experience as an Underwriter
• Encompass experience is required
• DE (Direct Endorsement) designation required
• VA SAR/LAPP (Staff Appraiser Reviewer/Lender Appraisal Processing Program) designations required
• Must be able to work independently and take action as needed to complete a loan file
• Working knowledge of FHA, VA, CONVENTIONAL, and NON-QM
• Must have proactive approach to workload
• Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment is essential in this role and priorities
• Must be able to meet deadlines and turnaround times
• Customer service orientated
• Strong verbal and written communication skills

Position Salary:

$36 - $46/hour, based on experience + per file bonus
