Deputy Utilities Director
Characteristics of the Job
Performs professional engineering and administrative work in connection with the planning, budgeting, design, construction management, compliance, and maintenance of all City utilities. Reports directly to the DPW Director/City Engineer. Manages the personnel, budget, and daily operations of the Wastewater Division and oversees the Water Utility manager. The work of this position requires the exercise of considerable judgment, initiative, and professional knowledge, and involves responsibility for making professional decisions on engineering and utility activities.
Position Overview, Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to apply the principles and practices of engineering and utilities as related to the preparation and development of plans and specifications for public works projects.
- Ability to read, interpret and apply federal, state, and local rules and regulations as they apply to sanitary sewer and water systems; ability to read, understand and process routine and complex information provided in written form.
- Ability to operate various software programs, specifically related to engineering and project management.
- Ability to read, interpret and apply federal, state, and local rules and regulations.
- Ability to read, understand, and process routine and complex information provided in written form
- Ability to utilize computer and engineering software programs, such as CAD and GIS, for managing all aspects of public infrastructure.
- Ability to manage construction projects, consultant contracts, and budgets.
- Ability to make independent judgments and/or recommendations.
Required Training & Experience
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering. Minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience, or any equivalent combination of experience and education. Prior municipal and personnel management experience is desired. Registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Wisconsin.
Valid Wisconsin Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
Salary & Benefits
The starting salary is $84,975. Salary range is $84,975- $118,965. Excellent benefits package including:
