NCTA seeks a Deputy General Counsel to provide legal support for the Association and member companies in proceedings before government agencies and courts.
Background/Skills/Abilities Preferred:
- J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited institution and licensed to practice law.
- Knowledge of broadband, internet, spectrum, telecommunications and video industries a plus.
- Political acumen and knowledge of the inner workings of policymaking and governmental bodies.
- Experience serving as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and senior business leaders, with a proven ability to guide them through sophisticated legal, business, and regulatory matters.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Clear communicator and engaging public speaker with excellent legal and writing skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills; capable of building and cultivating strong relationships with internal clients and external parties.
- Team player with the ability to work well cross-functionally and in a team environment.
- Strategic thinker with ability to assess complex problems and propose solutions.
- Possesses unquestioned integrity and ethics, a high level of professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality. Demonstrates a firm commitment to establishing and upholding key company values and culture.

Responsibilities:
- Serves as advisor to the SVP, Legal & Regulatory Affairs on all issues before the department.
- Partners with the SVP, Legal and Regulatory Affairs to coordinate relationships with relevant government entities, including the FCC, the FTC, the White House, the Department of Commerce, and other executive branch agencies.
- Provides expertise on industry issues such as broadband, spectrum and emerging technologies.
- Prepares comments for filing in Federal Communications Commission and other agency proceedings; prepares briefs for filing in various court cases; prepares issue briefs and other material for legislative advocacy.
- Partners with the Government Relations team by serving as a subject matter expert on issues within areas of responsibility, including meeting with Congressional offices, reviewing legislation, and working on testimony.
- Provides proactive advice to senior leadership on legal and policy strategies and initiatives.
- Coordinates policy positions with member companies and outside counsel; coordinates with other associations and industry coalitions.
- Represents the organization at policy conferences and other public meetings.
- Assists SVP, Legal and Regulatory Affairs and NCTA media team in responding to media inquiries and developing public-facing content.
- Supervises outside counsel and policy experts.
- Works closely with junior attorneys on issue areas.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
