Position Summary: Department Secretary, MRI Department, 4pm-10pm shifts, expect Friday 2pm-10pm. Every Other Weekend Required. 

Summary:

The medical secretary is the first point of contact for all patients. This individual will access all MRI and OP cardiology patient’s records and verify according to procedure. The medical secretary is responsible for completing all prescreens of MRI OP prior to the patient’s arrival. Assist MRI technologist with but not limited to, obtaining protocols from radiologist, changing patients, lifting patients, stocking rooms, checking expiration dates, disposal of dirty laundry. 

Responsibilities:

• Performs all clerical functions within the department such as:
  • Greeting all patients in a friendly compassionate manner,
  • answering phones and directs calls to appropriate personnel,
  • Verify insurances and determine patient balances due, using available tools such as, NEHEN, MHP, and EMDEON/WEBMD.
  • Collection of co-pays and prior balances, ensuring 100% of co-pay eligible patients are interviewed during shift,
  • Access, update and maintain all billing notes ensuring proper communication between registration and patient accounts,
  • Research and navigate Meditech system to locate and correct appropriate missing insurance information ensuring proper verification.
  • Obtain signatures on all necessary legal permits, notices, and consents.
  • Monitors patient Waiting Room, making every effort to assist patients and families as necessary. Provides supportive and accurate information concerning patients' delays.
• Communicates effectively with internal and external customers demonstrating the ability to understand patients' limitations and expectations.
• Provides support and reassurance to patients. Answers patient's questions, demonstrating care and respect for patient's dignity and privacy.

Qualifications: 

• Education: High School graduate or equivalent.
• Experience: Previous experience as a medical secretary or related duties preferred. Medical terminology knowledge required. Previous Medical transcription experience preferred.
• Licensure/Certification: BLS required.

Salary Range: $16.60-$24.67
