Job Summary: A dental Patient Service Representative (PSR) is an administrative specialist who often acts as the point of contact between a patient and their dentist, insurance company and other dental professionals. A PSR does various clerical tasks which primarily focus on maintaining patient records, scheduling appointments, processing payments, and preparing schedules for upcoming days.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Welcoming and greeting patients coming in for appointments.
- Maintain patient accounts and records.
- Scheduling and confirming of appointments.
- Answering calls and voicemails in a professional and timely manner.
- Management and organization of specialist referrals.
- Checking insurance eligibilities and entering vital information.
- Generating co-pay estimates for scheduled appointments.
- Sorting of incoming/outgoing mail.
- Tracking of front office supplies.
- Collection of patient payments.
- Submission of insurance claims and posting of subsequent payments.
- Completion of daily task list for preparation of patient schedules.
Required/Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- A base knowledge of dental terminology and other aspects of dentistry is preferred, but not required.
- Organizational, multitasking and time management skills are crucial to this position, and are a requirement.
- The ability to conduct oneself with a professional/polite demeanor is a requirement.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 2+ years of experience in dental is preferred, but not required.
- Experience with Word, Excel and Dentrix Ascend is preferred, but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer;
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times;
- Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
