Job Summary: The Dental Hygienist Provides basic routine Dental Hygienist services under the supervision of a Dental Provider. Patient population includes all age groups with varied dental hygiene history and dental treatments.
Essential duties and Responsibilities:
- Delivers direct patient care to patients as assigned, using established Dental Hygienist procedures; performs routine treatment procedures, such as cleaning, polishing, x-rays, application of sealants and fluorides, takes panorex, bitewings and periapical x-rays and other procedures are required.
- School based services include additional services related to specific grade levels.
- Screening to identify and classify dental needs.
- Referrals to family dentists as needed.
- Classroom toothbrush instruction K-6
- Fluoride Prophylaxis first grade with parent permission and as needed grade 2 through 4.
- Plaque control program, flossing and brushing, grade 2 through 6.
- Mass fluoride mouth rinse grade 4-5.
- Fluoride brush-ins grade 7-8.
- Health career talks grades 10-12.
- Develops and implements individualized dental care plans for patients; performs patient education, discharge planning, and patient/family teaching under the supervision of a qualified dentist.
- Assesses dental condition and needs of patient; uses patient screening procedures, to include medical history review, dental charting, and periodontal charting; takes patient vital signs as required.
- Documents dental history or chief complaint; records and reports pertinent observations and patient reactions to dental staff, as appropriate; documents lab procedures and ensures follow up on results;
- Performs patient triage and initiates patient care as appropriate for walk-in patients. Reinforcement of education for individual patient needs.
- Assists in preparation of patient care areas, and in the patient admission, transfer, and discharge process, as required; prepares reports and assists as required with patient reception, telephone calls, routine triage, and other office duties.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Education/Certifications: Current licensure as a Dental Hygienist in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania required. Bachelor's degree in a directly related clinical field. CPR Certified or able to obtain certification immediately upon hire.
Minimum Work Experience: Minimum of one years’ experience preferred. Must be able to work in a community based clinical environment and rotate to School Based setting when required by the Center and satisfactorily pass background screening including child abuse clearance. Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training.
Other Requirements: Reliable transportation to travel to recruitment events.
