What to Expect


As Tesla continues to vertically integrate our operations, Tesla’s Minerals and Metals Engineering group is looking for a highly motivated DCS engineer to work on a critical challenge facing the world’s energy transition – expanding production of battery materials and refining systems.


As a DCS engineer, you will work closely with the process development and design teams to deploy first-of-a-kind chemical production processes and equipment, designing new processing facilities to produce high purity battery materials, supporting projects from concept through design, install, integration, ramp, and handover to the operations team.
What You’ll Do
  • Implement DeltaV DCS and SIS systems including IO, Control Modules, Equipment Modules, 3rd Party interfaces and DeltaV Live graphics for large scale chemical process projects
  • Development of state-based control schemes for fully autonomous startup, operating and shutdown
  • Creation and standardization of tools to automate the implementation and testing of DCS systems including logic, graphics, and system architecture
  • Support the design of process control narratives for maintainability, operability and optimization of chemical process control schemes
  • Development of logic, infrastructure and interfacing for APC based controls
  • Develop control system architectures for greenfield chemical processing facilities including interfaces with motor controls, PLCs, site level IT and enterprise level IT, Implementation of SIS and BMS systems
  • Support commissioning of DCS systems including automating workflows, troubleshooting, integrating smart commissioning tools
What You’ll Bring
  • Evidence of exceptional ability, including a strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and demonstrated ability to leverage this understanding to solve challenging technical problems
  • 4+ years as a controls engineer deploying large scale DeltaV systems in a chemical process design or production environment
  • Demonstrated experience in the execution of DCS projects from concept through commissioning and startup
  • Control system expertise using DeltaV DCS, DeltaV SIS
  • Experience executing ISA-88, ISA-106 and/or state-based control
  • Experience implementing model predictive controls with running DCS and PLC systems
  • What will put you ahead: experience working with SQL databases, DeltaV Live, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, and Modbus TCP protocols
  • Experience connecting DCS systems to a variety of electrical equipment including: SEL relays, AllenBradley, Siemens, and ABB VFDs and starters
  • Control system expertise using Siemens, AllenBradley, Beckhoff PLCs
