Job Summary:
The Delivery Driver is responsible for transporting parts and materials on behalf of the company. They collect items for shipment, load their own vehicle, and deliver the items to their destination. Delivery drivers operate independently for the majority of the day and are expected to deliver items at an agreed-upon time and in good condition, while maintaining a high level of integrity and responsibility. They must also ensure safe driving practices and act as a good company representative to internal and external customers, as well as the public.
Responsibilities:
- Perform deliveries to company locations, local and regional vendors, and customers in an efficient and safe manner.
- Adhere to all DOT and OSHA regulations, driving laws, and timekeeping regulations.
- Collaborate with other S&R associates and company management to plan daily delivery routes.
- Load and unload trucks using forklifts or other equipment.
- Operate commercial vehicles such as vans, pickup trucks, flatbed trucks, and box trucks (26' or under).
- Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
- Document and communicate actions, irregularities, and continuing needs to ensure continuity among work days.
- Perform basic maintenance of vehicles and schedule repairs as needed.
- Ensure proper paperwork for deliveries is completed and submitted to the finance department on a daily basis.
- Communicate any delivery issues to the appropriate parties promptly.
- Assist in other functions of the Shipping and Receiving Department as needed, including covering department during employee absences, cross-training to understand all aspects of the department, and being a good team player for the department.
Qualifications:
- Must have and maintain a valid commercial driver's license (CDL-C or CDL-B).
- Complete yearly DOT medical certifications when required (company will pay fees).
- Experience operating heavy equipment preferred (forklift, crane, etc.).
- Must be able and willing to work outside in various weather conditions.
- Ability to lift over 50 lbs unassisted, occasionally lift 100 lbs unassisted, safely.
Desired Computer/Equipment Skills:
- Proficient in Windows-based operating systems.
-- Willingness to learn new computer tasks as needed.
- Able and willing to communicate via cellphone (text, email, voice) on a regular basis with process partners.
Other Skills Required:
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Collaborative and able to work effectively in a team.
Work Environment:
This job operates in an industrial manufacturing environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. They may also encounter outside weather conditions.
Physical Demands:
The employee must be able to talk, hear, stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, and climb throughout the day. The position requires lifting and moving items over 50 pounds and may require specific vision abilities.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position with the expected work hours being Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Some overtime and weekend work may also be required.
Travel:
This position requires daily travel via company vehicle to locations locally and regionally. Overnight travel is not required.
Required Education and Experience:
- High school degree.
- 5 years of experience as an OTR or local Delivery Driver.
- Current DOT Medical Certification.
- Current Commercial Driver's License and clean driving record.
