JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Deli Clerk

JOB DESCRIPTION: As a primary contact for Safeway customers, the Deli Clerk provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. Operates computerized cash register and electronic scale in store delicatessen to weigh, wrap, itemize, and total customer’s purchases. May take deli orders face to face or by telephone. Prepares deli food for hot and cold deli cases. Slices and wraps meats and cheeses for special order or to fill deli case. Prepares deli fruit or seasonal trays for display or special order. May replenish items in coffee area and deli case. Checks and maintains appropriate level of supplies in deli area. May retrieve product from storage area and stock freezer, cooler, or storage room as appropriate. Washes dishes, pots, pans. Sweeps and mops floors as needed. Cleans interior of display cases. Changes oil and filter in deep fryer and sanitizes food preparation equipment as necessary.

JOB DUTIES: Safeway Deli Clerks employees are generally responsible for completing the following job duties:

* Provide customer service as currently defined by the employer within the scope of the position and within company policy.

* Prepare hot and cold deli food and display in deli cases for sale to customer.

* Operate slicers and other food preparation equipment.

* Use scales and volume measures to apportion product correctly.

* Take deli orders over telephone or in person.

* Inventory stock, restock, and face shelves of deli cases on sales floor.

*Sanitation of deli area.

* Performs temperature and tare checks daily.

* Other duties as assigned.

Reaching: Constant knee to shoulder level reaching to stock and fill customer orders. Seldom overhead reaching. Seldom at or above should level reaching. Standing: Constant standing while on job. Sitting allowed on breaks. Walking: Constant walking around kitchen/service area. Climb/Balance: Seldom. May use step stool or ladder. Trunk Functions: Constant neck rotation and bending of head. Frequent crouching. Occasional twisting. Seldom bending/stooping and squatting. Upper Extremity: Constant handling/grasping when filling orders, cooking, and cleaning. Constant fine finger manipulation when handling smaller items and counting bills. Frequent repetitive motion for short periods when slicing and making sandwiches. Vision: Use of peripheral vision and depth perception to move around crowded store area and push carts in aisles containing customers. Use of near vision to verify operation of register, read displays, read prices and count change. Also important when operating slicers, deep fryers and using sharp knives. Hearing: To converse with customers to provide service, perceive questions and conduct business. To answer pages and receive instructions from other employees. Speech: To converse with customers, answer questions and conduct business. To page other employees over intercom and give feedback to other employees. Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $14.50 - $15.25 per hour
