Job Description
The internship program at IYF actively targets college students who identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) and/or with another underrepresented group. BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and other historically marginalized people face many institutional barriers, and their talent and leadership are underrepresented in the international development sector. IYF is committed to removing these barriers. This program offers emerging leaders from underrepresented communities and diverse ethnic backgrounds the opportunity to gain firsthand experience in a wide range of programmatic, financial, and administrative functions within an international nonprofit.
SUPERVISOR
Corporate and Foundation Partnerships (CFP) Manager
AVAILABILITY
20 hours per week

6 weeks (July 15 – August 27 preferably)

Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C.
INTERNSHIP SUMMARY
The main objectives of the internship are to shift efforts towards proposal/concept note writing and facilitation, provide knowledge management support, such as inputting notes and other information into STORM, and provide support with copy-editing and due diligence research on prospective funders. The expected outcomes of the internship are to track and update opportunities/events/tasks via STORM platform and provide due diligence research to highlight new prospects.
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Support IYF’s Corporate and Foundations pipeline by:
- Finding new funding opportunities through databases, monitoring relevant listservs, press releases, peer organization research, events, and lapsed IYF funding records.
- Vetting existing lists of funders and preparing internal research summaries on alignment, budget size, proposal logistics, and key stakeholders.
- Supporting the CFP team on next steps to contact and build relationships with well-aligned prospective funders.
- Copy-editing proposals, external-facing presentations, or other relevant documents for CFP team members
- Updating and managing CFP’s data management database, STORM
- Contribute to individual giving strategy through support of presentations and other materials
- Contributing to other projects, as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
- A Bachelor’s degree and at least a year of professional development experience, which can include internships, volunteer work, student run organizations, etc.
- Fluent in English, Spanish proficiency preferred
- Familiar with Microsoft Office and Teams
- Strong verbal and written communication, time management, and multitasking skills
- Desire to learn more about nonprofit fundraising, global development, and/or positive youth development
