Job description

Join the Bark Support® pet care family! We are a well-established, small, and family-owned dog walking and pet care company located in the vibrant Fort Greene/Clinton Hill area.

We are currently seeking a Dedicated Dog Walker/Pet Care Associate to join our small team. The position requires availability from Monday to Friday, with working hours from at least 10 AM to 5 PM (flexibility is much appreciated), and the ability to work 1-2 weekends per month.

The pets and pet owners value commitment and we ask for a minimum commitment of at least 1 year.

As part of our team, you will become an integral part of our community, considering our neighbors and clients as family.

We expect our team members to share passion for dogs, demonstrating genuine care for animals of various sizes, ages, temperaments, and quirks.

Your role involves not only caring for the pets but also caring and respecting their parents, their home, the community, and working as one with the Bark Support Team.

We are looking for individuals who are motivated to always give their best, naturally care for others and strongly consider others' expectations, have excellent organizational skills, possess a positive attitude, and are reliable. The job demands a lot of walking and being outside a lot, technical skills, physical stamina, and an understanding of dogs behaviors, pet first aid, and city laws - all of which you will be trained on.

KEY BENEFITS:

  • Comprehensive training is paid and provided.
  • Compensation is per-appointment basis, not per hour, and it averages to $20-$30 per hour.
  • Additional pay for early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • A set day-to-day schedule will be provided only after you successfully completed the training stage and become the primary caretaker for a group of pups.
  • You will have an assigned a walking route within a small neighborhood radius.
  • We will meet your minimum weekly financial target and you can work more if it fits your capability and schedule.
  • Provided working gear and equipment.
  • Opportunities for personal and professional growth in pet handling, client relations, communication skills, time management, and more.
  • Work in a historic Brooklyn neighborhood and in a community that values integrity!

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION:

  • Availability to work from Monday to Friday, at least between 10AM - 5PM.
  • Willingness to work 1-2 weekends per month and some holidays.
  • Advantageous to have an earlier start (8AM/9AM) or coverage after 6PM (not mandatory).
  • Commitment to a minimum of 1 year.
  • Commute time to Clinton Hill/Fort Greene is 25 minutes or less.
  • Ability to handle the physical demands, walking a lot, and handling multiple dogs (2-4 at most).
  • Adaptable to challenges during walks and willing to work outdoors regardless of the weather conditions.
  • Genuinely care for all pets in your care, have an understanding of their personalities, and will communicate, and engage with them.
  • You are focused, organized, and have the ABILITY TO PAY ATTENTION TO DETAILS.
  • Warm and caring personality, you are a person who puts others first.
  • Tech-savvy on an Android smartphone with basic knowledge of Google Apps.
  • Ability to ride a bicycle (useful but not necessary).

This role may be challenging, especially during the initial 2-3 weeks of training and onboarding. Once you pass through the training phase, you will be dancing on the sidewalk with the pups in your care!

To be considered, please submit a short cover letter along with your resume, sharing a bit about yourself, your life goals, personal interests, and why you are interested in this position.
