Job/Department Summary:

The Dean of the College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Construction Management (ECC) serves as chief academic and administrative officer for the College. The dean is responsible for administration, development and direction of academic programs of the College. The dean understands and supports the values of a public, comprehensive, residential campus, who recognizes the critical role of faculty and staff in the life of the University, and who will actively participate in collaboration. Specific responsibilities include college leadership for academic excellence in teaching, research, university service, and the development of external support and fundraising through building relationships with alumni, friends, and industry and community organizations. The dean is responsible for setting college-wide strategic directions, guiding academic policy, administration of resources for instruction and research, fiscal and personnel management of the College, as well as student recruitment and retention. The dean will serve with a strong administrative team committed to making Chico State one of America's outstanding comprehensive universities.

The dean is accountable for ensuring that diversity, equity, and inclusion are integrally tied to all actions and decisions in areas of responsibility. The dean will be a champion of cultivating a welcoming, inclusive, and equitable climate, and will develop and implement strategies to recruit and retain a more diverse student body, staff, and faculty. The dean will be a dynamic leader who has the ability to consider issues and perspectives of multiple stakeholders and disciplines while working collegially and cooperatively by reaching across unit boundaries to form and advance positive and productive relationships. The dean is a member of the Provost's Academic Council (PAC) and reports directly to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Qualifications and Characteristics:

While no single candidate will have all of the following qualifications and characteristics, the ideal candidate should possess many of the following:

  • An earned doctorate and academic or industry accomplishments appropriate for faculty appointment at the rank of full professor in one of the academic disciplines in the College;
  • A proven record of effective administrative leadership and managerial experience;
  • A record of transparent, strategic, and successful fiscal management and ability to manage a complex budget efficiently and effectively;
  • Ability to promote and support excellence in teaching, scholarship, professional activity, and community service within the College;
  • Understanding of the diverse engineering, management, and technology departments and programs in the College;
  • Ability to successfully engage and develop external relationships to build an infrastructure of fundraising and resource enhancement for program support and growth;
  • Experience leading and/or facilitating accreditation efforts (e.g. ABET and ACCE) and/or quality assurance programs;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and advocacy skills across diverse groups and populations;
  • Competence/knowledge of working in a collective bargaining environment.
  • An appreciation for the expertise of ECC staff, and a desire to support staff professional development.

Time Base: Full-time (1.0)

Pay Plan: 12/12

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm, Summer: Mon-Thurs 7:00am-5:30pm. 

CSU Classification Salary Range: $110,004 - $353,100 per year.  (Admin IV)

Anticipated Hiring Range:  $210,000 - $230,000 per year.  Salary commensurate with education and experience of the individual selected.
