Job description

SUMMARY
The Dean of Students serves as part of the school's leadership team as a facilitator and provider of a comprehensive system of supports for students with high-risk behavior through the District's Response to Intervention Model utilizing proactive and preventive measures to ensure the academic and behavioral success of Students. The Dean of Students will coordinate and provide behavior interventions through the RTI process, monitor student progress through qualitative and quantitative measures, and participate in behavior intervention and/or 504 meetings to provide recommendations regarding adjustments to student behavioral and academic intervention plans. In addition to providing support in the areas of pro-social behavior, discipline, attendance, and drop-out prevention the Dean of Students will provide professional development and guidance for teachers to improve knowledge and skills with classroom management, engaging students in learning, and building positive relationships that promote student success.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Dean of Students Behavior Management and Instructional Responsibilities:
  • Assist when appropriate in planning and conducting weekly purposeful meetings in PLCs or team planning time with department teacher teams to review level of student engagement, risk behaviors that may interfere with academic performance, school, and classroom management recommendations, patterns of discipline/office referrals and positive behavioral
  • Model positive behavioral supports and effective classroom management for teachers as recommended by campus
  • Collaborate with teacher teams to identify students struggling with Tier I instruction due to emotional, social, or behavioral factors; design Tier I supports for these students. Recommend targeted interventions and assist with implementation and facilitation of intervention programs/processes as determined by the behavior intervention or 504
  • Develop specialized behavior support plans for students identified in the RTI
  • Work with principal to oversee implementation of Behavioral RTI processes at the
  • Consult with individuals and groups of Students to develop pro-social behavioral skills and behavioral coping
  • Communicate and collaborate with parents regarding behavioral
  • Provide transitional support for students returning to campus from alternative

  • Participate in data analysis discussions with administrative teams and teacher teams to determine campus strengths/weaknesses and collaborate to determine student behavior and school climate priorities to address campus
Leadership Responsibilities:
  • Actively participate in campus decision-making processes and discussions as it relates to student behavior, attendance, engagement in school, and risk
  • Maintain student observation records and anecdotal information about individual students as well as records of patterns and trends related to student risk behaviors for periodic discussion and review. Collaborate with campus administrative team to strengthen system of supports for At Risk
  • Meet regularly with campus leadership team to keep them abreast of student needs, issues of concern, and progress with keeping students engaged in
  • Mentor new teachers and teachers new to campus/district in classroom management and recognizing and responding to high-risk
  • Support individual students and small groups of Students with presenting needs/concerns.
  • Consults with parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant individuals to enhance their work with
  • Coordinates with school and community personnel to bring together resources for
  • Maintains a communication system that effectively collects and disseminates student information to other professionals, as appropriate.
  • Develops and maintains positive working relationships with other school professionals and with representatives of community
  • Uses an effective referral process for assisting students and others to use special programs and services.
  • Ensures that the uses of student records are for the benefit of Students and personnel working with those
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Deep knowledge of the District's Response to Intervention (RTI) process and documentation processes
  • Knowledge of positive behavioral management supports, interventions, and systems
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in presenting school-based and district-wide professional development
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a complex and diverse school system

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Valid Texas Teacher Certification appropriate to campus grade levels
Master's Degree in Education preferred
Fluent bilingual as demonstrated on the Spanish Oral proficiency - preferred Special Education, School Counseling, or Principal Certification preferred
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret educational periodicals, professional journals, educational procedures, or governmental laws and regulations. Ability to write reports, educational correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, faculty, parents, students, community and general public.
Bilingual preferred.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Counseling certificate.
