POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal Day Camp. Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
Typical Physical Demands:
Requires full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Occasionally requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
Typical Working Conditions:
Position is in wellness environment and outdoors. May require automobile travel to branches, training, seminars or workshops. Bending, stooping, lifting up to 50 lbs, verbal communication, hearing, seeing, 40% keyboard input, some sitting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supervises a group of children
- Maintains group ratios and reports to supervisor as needed.
- Actively engages children during all aspects of the program to include comprehensive curriculum.
- Positively ID unfamiliar individuals that are picking up a child
- Introduce yourself to parents and learn their names being sure to address them by name when
- greeting during drop off or pick up times.
- Actively engages and/or leads 30+ minutes of vigorous activity with children each day.
- Document accident and incident reports
- If unable to work a shift, coordinate a substitute and notify supervisor
- Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
- Attends staff meetings and training.
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary
- situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
- Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship building skills.
- Performs all other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 18 years of age
- High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
- Previous experience working with children preferably in a Day Camp setting
- Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc.
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 60 days of hire date.
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
