The JPB is a joint powers agency whose membership is comprised of the San Mateo County Transit District (District), the City and County of San Francisco and the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority. The Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board is seeking proposals from qualified consulting firms to provide on call professional support services. The selected Proposer(s) must provide qualified and available professional(s) with relevant experience for 29 support positions on Planning, Engineering, Construction and Safety and Quality. The Services will be for various buildings, bridges, and stations/guideway construction projects on property owned or controlled by the Agency on an as needed basis throughout the contract period. The Agency, subject to Board of Directors' approval, intends to award a five-year base term contract, with up to two additional one-year options terms, for Services to one (1) or more successful Proposer(s). The On-Call Professional Support will provide planning, engineering and other services that may be required in support of transit capital project development and other construction projects. These support services include but are not limited to the following: working on a range of civil engineering, transportation, station platform, building, tunnels design and construction staging, requiring independent evaluation, selection, adaptation and modification of standard design techniques, procedures, and design criteria, and assisting in value engineering, resolution of complex engineering, architectural, community, planning, and the application of policy issues. The Consultant(s) will be responsible for policy, criteria and review of maintenance/development, design management, design and construction procurement, inspection, replacement and rehabilitation for buildings, park and rides, heavy rail guideway, stations and related features and amenities. The on-call professional support positions may include, but not limited to:
Rail Datacenter Network Engineer
Job Description:
1. Design, implement, and maintain fiber ring networks to ensure high availability and scalability of datacenter infrastructure.
2. Troubleshoot network issues, including fiber breaks, signal degradation, and connectivity issues, and coordinate with vendors or service providers for timely resolution.
3. Manage industrial control networks, including SCADA systems, PLCs, and other critical components, to support operational processes and maximize efficiency.
4. Configure, troubleshoot, and optimize VoIP systems to provide clear and reliable communication services within the organization.
5. Lead analog to digital migration projects, including the assessment of existing infrastructure, planning for migration strategies, and execution of migration activities.
6. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate network solutions with existing systems and applications.
7. Perform network capacity planning and performance monitoring to identify and address potential bottlenecks or issues proactively.
8. Implement security best practices to safeguard Datacenter Networks from potential threats or vulnerabilities.
9. Document network configurations, procedures, and guidelines to ensure compliance with industry standards and internal policies.
10. Provide technical support and assistance to other team members and end-users as needed.
11. Respond to system alerts and incidents, troubleshoot technical issues, and coordinate with vendors or service providers to ensure 24/7 availability and support of datacenter operations.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
2. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in fiber Network Engineering, with a focus on ring topology and datacenter aggregation.
3. In-depth knowledge of fiber ring networks, including resilient ring configurations, fault tolerance mechanisms, and rapid spanning tree protocol (RSTP) configurations.
4. Proficiency in configuring and managing network devices, such as switches, routers, and optical transport equipment, from leading vendors (e.g., Cisco, Ruggedcom, Dell).
5. Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting VoIP systems, including SIP, RTP, and QoS.
6. Experience with analog to digital migration projects, including familiarity with legacy systems and modernization strategies.
7. Strong understanding of network security concepts, including firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and access control mechanisms.
8. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex network issues effectively.
9. Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network+, etc.) are highly desirable.
10. Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
