Job description

Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is the team behind the cloud.  Within CO&I, the Datacenter Engineering (DCE) team is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft’s cloud business. The Microsoft portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects. We are looking for a passionate Datacenter Engineering Senior Telecom Engineer to help build the cloud datacenters that power the world’s largest online services.

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • 7+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of large-scale facility networking infrastructure projects within datacenters or other comparable experience (healthcare, enterprise, large retail, critical environments, healthcare, government etc.) including design considerations of fiber strand counts of more than 288 single mode.
  • 5+ years of experience in Telecom designs based on industry standards, building codes and safety standards including Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) Standards, Telecommunications Distribution Methods Manual (TDMM), Rural Utility Services (RUS) Standards, American National Standards Institute / Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers / International Electrotechnical Commission (ANSI/IEEE/IEC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), National Electrical Code (NEC), and building codes.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • BICSI Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) or Data Center Design Consultant (DCDC) certified.
  • Familiarity with ground-up construction, greenfield and brownfield site development requirements.
  • Action-oriented with a passion for getting things done quickly, efficiently, and effectively.
  • Experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) programs such as AutoCAD or Revit.
  • Technical understanding of mission critical environments and the associated telecommunications facility considerations for Layer 0.
  • Ability to lead multiple projects of varying timelines while managing project expectations. 
  • Detailed understanding for structured cabling components. 
  • Familiarity with high-level construction administration.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally. 
  • Effective written and verbal communications skills.
  • Prior experience with Bluebeam
  • Experience using MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel including effective reporting/presentations of project information. 

 Hardware Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
