The Data Engineer will be part of a team responsible for ensuring the success of a highly visible, results-driven federal client through the development of a cloud-based next generation system.
Location: This position is eligible for fully remote work. Selected candidates living within a 25 miles radius of the NITAAC office in Rockville, MD will be required to come into the office once a week. The selected candidate must be currently located in, or willing to relocate to, a state supported by Tripoint Solutions corporate offices (AL, DC, FL, IL, LA, MD, MI, MN, MS, NJ, NC, PA, TN, TX, or VA).
The successful candidate will be accountable to:
- Design and implement efficient and scalable relational database systems in a cloud environment, including schema design, indexing, and partitioning strategies.
- Perform database administration tasks such as installing, configuring, and maintaining database software, ensuring optimal performance, security, and availability.
- Monitor database performance and resource utilization, identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks and optimizing SQL queries for improved efficiency.
- Develop and maintain backup and recovery procedures, ensuring data integrity and implementing disaster recovery solutions to minimize downtime.
- Manage database security, including access controls, and auditing mechanisms, to protect sensitive data from unauthorized access or breaches.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, provide technical guidance, and troubleshoot database-related issues.
- Automate repetitive tasks using scripting languages like Python, PowerShell, or SQL scripting to streamline database provisioning, monitoring, optimizing data delivery, and maintenance activities.
- Building analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics.
- Strong interest to learn and stay up to date on relevant technologies, trends, industry standards and identify new ones to implement.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Math, Analytics, Statistics, Informatics, Information Technology or equivalent quantitative field.
- 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or Data Scientist role designing and implementing relational database systems for cloud applications.
- 3+ years of strong proficiency in database administration tasks, including installation, configuration, and performance tuning of database software.
- 3+ years hands-on experience with database backup and recovery procedures, including disaster recovery planning and implementation.
- Experience in automating database tasks using scripting languages like Python, PowerShell, or SQL scripting.
- Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in agile cross-functional development teams.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to new technologies and methodologies, with a passion for continuous learning and improvement.
- Experience building processes supporting data integration, transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management.
- Demonstrated success in manipulating, processing and extracting value from large disconnected data sets.
- Demonstrated accomplishments in designing, coding, testing and supporting data analytics and reporting solutions in a cloud environment.
- Concept experience; information retrieval, search engine, document data extraction
- Preferred experience with AWS cloud services: Textract, Comprehend, GlueMaker, Athena, Notebook
- Working knowledge of message queueing, stream processing, and highly scalable ‘big data’ data stores.
