This position may be filled remotely in the Central or Eastern time zone, and have the ability to travel to occasional onsite meetings.

The Data Scientist is adept at using large data sets to find opportunities for business optimization and using models to test the effectiveness of different courses of action. They must have strong experience using a variety of data mining/data analysis methods, using a variety of data tools, building and implementing models, using/creating algorithms and creating/running simulations. The Data Scientist should have an excellent grasp of machine learning techniques, including large language models and associated techniques like prompt engineering, embedded data, and retrieval augmentation. They must have a proven ability to drive business results with their data-based insights. They must be comfortable working with a wide range of stakeholders and functional teams. The right candidate will have a passion for finding solutions hidden in large data sets and communicating complex results to stakeholders to improve business outcomes. Essential job functions include:

• Use statistics, mathematical modeling, data mining, machine learning, and data visualization techniques to deliver data-driven insights for our clients.
• Work with firm leadership to understand challenges and create solutions.
• Be a thought leader for the team on projects and about leading technologies.
• Stay on top of data science, machine learning, mathematics, and visualization trends & practices.
• Be a self-starter- ready to set the direction for advanced analytics and data science for the firm.

Position Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, computer science, or related field. Representative coursework in those areas acceptable with non-STEM degree.
• At least 3 years working in applied mathematics or statistics (some higher-level academic coursework may count towards this total).
• At least 2 years writing code in Python.
• Minimum 2 years working with SQL to consume data.
• Fundamental understanding of machine learning methods.
• Experience with LLM tools from OpenAI, Anthropic, and/or HuggingFace.
• Understanding of embeddings, retrieval augmentation, and prompting best practices.
• Experience with multi-modal LLMs.
• Command line experience in macOS or Linux.
• Knowledge of Natural Language Processing.
• Experience developing data visualizations.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Employees are entitled to compensation commensurate with skill and experience. The exact compensation will vary based on skills, experience, location, and other factors permitted by law. The expected compensation ranges for this position in various states and jurisdictions are as follows: 

• Jersey City, NJ: $102,000 - $186,000
• State of Massachusetts: $94,000 - $180,000 
• State of New York: $88,000 - $190,000

The above salaries do not include a discretionary bonus, however bonus opportunities are non-guaranteed, and are dependent upon individual and firm performance.
