The Data Scientist/Analyst prepares and makes effective use of data and applies knowledge of best practices to support hospital level quality improvement initiatives. They prepare dashboard and develop visualization tools to communicate data insights with clinical teams, hospital leadership, and other operational stakeholders. A successful Data Scientist ensures accurate data extraction, interprets complex data, and collaborates effectively with users in driving quality improvement projects, ultimately enhancing patient outcomes. They design and implement business intelligence tools impacting performance measures. They create pathways for report automation and ensures seamless communication of information with users. They ingest data from disparate sources and streamline automation to end users.
The position requires expertise in data extraction from various databases, data manipulation, running analysis, testing, and validating statistical models for project needs. Strong SQL and Tableau skills are essential, while Python and R programming are preferred. Exposure to EHR and EPIC, in particular, is highly preferred.
Position responsibilities:
- Use LUHS information systems to support innovation in clinical care, address service area-specific data and analytics needs, and identify opportunities for quality and performance improvement.
- Creates dashboards, ad-hoc reports, and robust analysis addressing departmental and hospital-level data needs.
- Prepares actionable data and analytics for LUHS committees, executive leadership, and management teams to support in decision-making and action planning.
- Design and implement statistical models to identify patterns, trends, and insights in clinical data.
- Provides supports in health equity related projects.
- Provides analytical support for teams addressing local quality and regional improvement initiatives by engaging key stakeholders.
- Communicates performance and technical definitions of quality metrics and national benchmarks extracted from various internal and external databases with clinical, operational, and senior leadership.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences, Health Informatics, or Computer Science.
- 3+ years of previous job-related experience.
- EPIC certification or training minimum in Cognito, Clarity and Caboodle Data models preferred.
- Strong SQL and coding experience.
- Proficiency in statistical software such as R or SAS, and database management.
- Programming skills in Python and R preferred.
