Position Specific Description
Data Science
  • Analyze large datasets (historical estimates, EPC bids, P&Ls, equipment quotes) and use statistical models to gain insights into cost trends and drivers.
  • Develop predictive models that use historical data, market trends, and other relevant factors to forecast future project costs. To be used for early stage estimating to generate a larger quantity of estimates in a shorter time.
  • Generate interactive visualizations that help identify cost outliers, trends, and areas that need attention or improvement.
  • Provide data-driven insights that help identify areas for process enhancement, update cost estimating methodologies, and implement best practices.
  • Implement automation and process optimization that streamline tasks and reduce manual effort thus saving time, improving efficiency, and reducing the likelihood of errors.
  • Leverage advanced analytics techniques for more accurate predictions, and faster estimates.
  • Effectively collaborate across the organization, working with Estimating, Project Controls, Pre-Con PMs, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements, identify data needs, and provide data-driven insights that positively impact the organization.
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments in data science and technology, implement new analytical techniques, tools, and best practices.
  • AI/Machine Learning routines with dynamic data sets
  • Strong foundation in statistical analysis techniques (e.g. Statistical decision tree model)
  • Use Data Engineering skill sets to build infrastructure for cloud-based database utilizing third party tools and custom software.
  • Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, R, SQL)
  • Familiar with general software development tools (Docker, Github) and best practices (unit testing)
  • Experience with visualization dashboards (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)

Estimating
  • The key focus of this role will be related to Data Science and Data Engineering. However, this person will be expected to support with estimating efforts at times as well. This will allow them to get a better understanding of how the databases and analytics will get used by the estimators.
  • Use existing estimating models to generate a complete capital expenditure (CapEx) estimates for each project requested.
  • Review layouts, designs and specifications to perform cost estimate.
  • Establish, build, and implements metrics for cost and construction estimate checks.
  • Conduct analyses to identify potential cost variances and mitigate project uncertainties.
  • Creates and manages pricing databases, ensuring accurate and organized storage of equipment pricing and labor quotes.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong verbal and written communication.
  • Able to manage and prioritize tasks, work on multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Preferred 4 to 5 years of experience with python and SQL, 2 years of cloud experience (preferably AWS)

Job Overview
This position is responsible for developing algorithms, modeling techniques, and optimization methods that support many aspects of NextEra and FPL business. Employees in this role use knowledge of machine learning, optimization, statistics, and applied mathematics along with abilities in software engineering with a focus on distributed computing and data storage infrastructure (e.g. "Big Data").
Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develops machine learning, optimization and other modeling solutions
  • Prepares comprehensive documented observations, analyses and interpretations of results including technical reports, summaries, protocols and quantitative analyses
  • Works with a variety of datasets, including timeseries data and "big data" requiring analysis on distributed computing platforms
  • Writes software in R, Python or similar languages and contributes code to product development teams
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
